ellathai Posted October 27, 2015 Share Posted October 27, 2015 Hey I'm moving to Thailand soon and will have fibre to the house, I will be getting a VPN but there's so many of them saying the same thing and it's getting confusing, if any of you guys having a VPN could give me some advice of what you think of yours would be appreciated. wisheewashee Posted October 28, 2015 Share Posted October 28, 2015 No doubt , many will answer you ,but me I go for the simplest way that doesnt cost any money and that is :- 1 .Download Google Chrome 2 .go to your extensions in the right hand corner and in the search find Browsec VPN . you will see a green Browtec sign and click and change to one of the 4 countries listed. Then check your Google search and Find your IP address just to check and make sure it works. Its a free VPN and you can change the IP address UK / USA / Singapore / Netherlands I use 3BB costing 590bht a month and for the past year with it I use the Iplayer BBC / ITV / Channel 4 without problems . How about trying to convince people of your argument that paid services are best. Give some evidence to support your argument. I gave mine, plenty of free ones do the job just fine. I can pick from many free servers all over the world to load up the VPN. Why do you think paid ones are better. What benefits do they give that makes them so special that you try and lump ALL paid ones as best and ALL free ones as bad. Your basic argument is flawed. They can work intermittently with slow speeds and no choice of locations, or they can be reliable, fast and offer servers in all corners of the globe. But the latter will cost money. If it does it then good to go. Paid or free doesnt matter however the service you use does. I use free ones that give me many choices of servers all around the world. They work perfectly fine and I pay nothing. You guys want to pay please be my guest however, dont group all free ones together and say they suck because, they dont. Of course some are better than others just like the paid ones. As far as google do a search on best free ones and see what you come up with, many kinds some good some not so good, same applies with paid services also. They've got no servers - they just route your traffic through other users' internet connection They offer zero encryption, they track your browsing habits and they sell your information to thier marketing partners. I used to use another VPN that cost about 55USD/year but I changed to PIA a few months ago because it was quite a lot cheaper and didnt cap bandwidth or prohibit certain protocols. It also offers a wider selection of nodes. I find that the service works well enough but I hated their software which runs in the background, creates malware-like temporary processes with varying names and makes multiple connections to strange servers all the time (regardless of whether a VPN is active or not) apparently in order to pre-select the best node. So I removed their software and just use OpenVPN with their servers, which works perfectly and presents no issues with background tasking at all. That's a good idea to use OpenVPN- PIA does show one how to set that up, which is a nice thing to do- I'll check it out. Generally I'm happy with PIA. The price is right and certainly it works fine. Yep. Just made the switch to OpenVPN with a PIA profile. Took less than a minute. Works perfectly! Thanks for the tip. My licence is expiring soon and PIA have a discount on now at $40 for a year. I was using Cyberghost free version which I had to wait in a queue to get in, until I signed up for PureVPN for US$49.95 a year, paid one year got another year free, don’t know if the offer is still on.
