PM Pitches ASEAN Access to French Investors

Prime Minister Hun Sen on Monday called for more investment from France, telling business leaders in Paris that they could access the entire region when the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) kicks off at the end of the year.

“From now on, please stop thinking that investment in Cambodia is just to reach Cambodia’s population of 15 million people,” Mr. Hun Sen told the Cambodia-France Business Council Meeting in Paris. “You have to think about the market in the Greater Mekong Sub-region, which comprises 326 million people, and the bigger market is all of ASEAN, which has 630 million people,” he told about 100 top executives who gathered for the event on the second day of Mr. Hun Sen’s two-day state visit to France.

Mr. Hun Sen stressed that French investment in Cambodia remains small, but opportunities are immense as regional economic integration approaches, according to a copy of his speech posted online.
