Hi All.. My first post, so Please be Patient with me; I will be spending two weeks in Thailand in late November. I would like to make 1 or 2 inexpensive, safe and fun trips to other countries, like Laos or Cambodia while I am there. Who has done it? What tips do you have? I would like to see the most, have a couple of great memories & spend the least (or close) while being safe and having a great time, with lots of photo opps. Any and all posts appreciated. Be happy and keep traveling..

Hello,

I don't know what your budget is but Laos is actually not as cheap as you

might think but is more expensive than Thailand if you're on a tight budget.

I don't know where you are from but most Western nationals need to pay

for a visa to Laos and Cambodia, while some Western nationals can now

get a visa-exempt entry into Vietnam to stay for up to 15 days for free.

Vietnam is one of the cheapest to travel in SE Asia. I love Vietnam so

much.

I don't know how long you can spend on your side trips but one of your best

bets might be to go to Vietnam from Thailand by land via Cambodia or Laos

and then fly back to Bangkok from Ho Chi Minh City.

Great reply, thanks for writing.

OK, I am an American.

Can I get a Visa at the border to visit Laos or Cambodia?

Vietnam sounds Great, but, travel costs would be higher.

Or, if a bus or a train, more time consuming.

Also, as I currently live in China, our home is only 200ks from Viet Nam, so I was going to do a lot of traveling to Viet Nam later, when I have more time.

Any other ideas, or suggestions much appreciated.

Thanks again, keep safe & keep traveling.

Oh, I regret to inform you that US passport holders do need a visa to VN.

You must apply for one at one of the VN Embassies or Consulates before

entering the country, or you can also apply for a VOA (Visa On Arrival)

on-line, on which you must arrive in the country by air.

Yes, you can get a VOA both at the Lao and Cambodian land borders.

VN is cheaper than Laos but I don't know about Cambodia because it's

been more than a decade since I last visited there. It should still be cheap,

too, though.
