My work have asked me to be one of the many MCs at a sports event in November that will require me to wake up at 4am and be at work by 5am. I will not get paid for this of course.

I'm not that keen on the whole idea but presume I have to abide by the ethos of 'give and take'. I had a 'sickie' on Monday and no one cared. They treat me well in this job and I presume that I should do the right thing and turn up on time (somehow). I would lose a lot of respect if I didn't show up.

Do you ever have to partake in any extracurricular activities on weekends in your teaching job? Do you get paid for it? Does your teaching job sometimes take the urine out of you?

cheers

I find that the sr teachers are pretty lazy and that is confirmed by the fact I always get volunteered for everything no matter where I teach.

In all three schools, activities modest. Weekends 1-2x a year. Gate duty sucks, but understandable at top schools, farce othetwise but I do see the marketing angle.

At some level, I really don't mind. What I do mind is that the shitty teachers have jobs in the first place and that I'm not paid all that much more and not nearly enough for this job.

Another bone of contention is that head teachers never pull their weight. Maybe they've earned that? Maybe if the other teachers were more engaged I wouldn't feel so put out.

You can really tell who is doing the job and who's running a charade by the effort people put into activities. I mean when everyone is rushing to the door, what is so important out there? They are in a new, foreign country, have no home to go to, no hobbies, no personal activities. Nothing that can't keep save for an illegal private lesson usually done on weekends anyway. That's the rub, you look at these guys, boring. Look at their fb page, boring - but such a hurry out the door to ??

I think some people such marginal teachers, not especially good with kids and with an underlying attitude such as to sort of sabotage the activity by their shittiness so its like - pick me, I dare you.

In a way activities are a badge that you are a winner if even implied. HoD will never tell you job well done. This is a confirmation you are a cut above.

Look at the bright side. They might want an emotional running commentary on some basketball game or something?

Why 5 am?!? Don't get this. Never before have I encountered such an early start, unless they bus the school somewhere hours away?

Then there will be a very long ceremony. Teachers paying respect to each other and praising each other...

If this is at your school, find out when exactly you are supposed to begin.

It was a muddy field, but I wanted to join in a relay run. My partner violated the rules and came about 7 meters towards me. I felt the need to take the baton to the line and knocked him down. Deep mud... No one said a word, but I bet the student was royally pissed off. - This might be a fun event after all. Hope it will be!

I presuppose that my work doesn't ask me any questions. Are you a PE teacher?

"One of the many MC's at a sports event answers your question. Guess you don't get paid per hour, right? facepalm.gif

Your post looks like a Chinese newspapers article about the hamster pregnancy rate in Sweden, compared to Amercian cosmonauts walking on the moon without oxygen masks, translated with Google translator.

+ 1. The sentence about the "shitty teachers" and the "outstanding Mencken teacher", without the license to kill, always gets volunteered. Don't we all get volunteered from time to time? It's really time to rethink the Christian's view of human existence now.

Dude, you're wrong because you don't get the meaning of his post. " Maybe if the other teachers would be more engaged, he wouldn't feel so put out? The question is out of where? You should be able to read between the lines. C'Mon, you're a teacher. ....facepalm.gif

But to his credit, it was written at 4.14 in the morning after a long chat with some incredible "beer bar individuals".

Please hold the line, Ajarn Mencken. thumbsup.gif
