Cash strapped Thai TV off air

BANGKOK, 1 November 2015 (NNT) -The “Thai TV” digital TV channel has terminated its broadcast while the National Broadcasting and Telecommunication Commission (NBTC) has confirmed it did not ordered the channel off the air. The commission will meet on Monday to discuss the matter.

Thai TV has gone dark since Sunday morning after an extension of its 2nd license fee installment was due on 31 October 2015. NBTC Secretary-General Thakon Tanthasit said Thai TV might have been blacked out by Thai PBS—its digital TV network provider, he said.

The secretary-general reiterated that the commission had not ordered Thai TV to stop broadcasting or cut its network signal, saying he would ask the NBTC meeting to consider the channel’s blackout on 2 November 2015.

NBTC does not order blackout of Thai TV

BANGKOK: The National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) has denied it has ever ordered Thai TV digital Television station to stop broadcasting or the company’s failure to pay the second instalment of the license fees.

NBTC secretary-general Thakorn Tanthasathit said Sunday that the programme blackout of the station might stem from the misunderstanding of the management and had nothing to do with the NBTC.

He, however, said that Thai TV issue would be discussed at a meeting of the commission on Monday.

The NBTC earlier agreed to grant Thai TV a reprieve by extending the payment period until the end of October to allow the company more time to secure a strategic partner.

However, it appears that the digital TV operators still cannot find a partner within the October deadline.

Why do they all "deny"???..........never ever call a spade a spade.......!

Thais always deny. It's t's their nature to immediately deny. If they don't deny, you get an immediate "I don't know."

....well...the money went somewhere.....didn't it....

...didn't Thai TV not make the payment, even when the deadline was extended? ... so why would the money "go somewhere"? The station was trying to get an investor to front the payment but apparently no one was immediately interested.

Maybr the Thai military can acquire the station. It already hosts two other channels.

The market has crashed. Too many channels. Not enough viewers. Not enough content providers. Not enough ad revenue. People bid without thinking.
