Patong Carnival gets underway with ‘Seven Wonders’

PHUKET: -- More than 1,000 people turned out for the launch of this year’s Patong Carnival, which officially got underway at 5pm yesterday (Nov 1) with the annual parade, this year under the theme “Seven Wonders”.

Thai PM welcomes Sri Lankan President in official state visit

BANGKOK, 2 November 2015 (NNT) - The President of Sri Lanka has paid an official visit to Thailand to discuss bilateral relations on all fronts, marking 60 years of relations between the two countries.


Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha yesterday welcomed Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena during his official visit to the Kingdom on November 1-4. The Thai government held an official welcoming ceremony in front of the Government House with both leaders reviewing a guard of honors.

The President then discussed bilateral relations with the Prime Minister, particularly on cultural and religious ties, the facilitation of trade and investment, tourism and political cooperation. The two parties also marked this year as the 60th anniversary of the Thai - Sri Lankan relations by exchanging exchanged stamps that marked 60 years of relations.

PHUKET: -- The justice system’s soft handling of criminal youth is at the core of the island's growing drug-powered gang violence, which led to a 15-year-old bystander being gunned down during the final hours of the Phuket Vegetarian Festival, explained Phuket City Police Deputy Superintendent Khunnadet Nanongkhai.
