Tak authorities to help Myanmar migrant workers return home for election

TAK, 7 November 2015 (NNT) – The authorities in Tak province have been instructed to provide assistance for Myanmar migrant workers who are returning home to go to Sunday's election.

Tak provincial governor Somchai Hatayatanti said he had told immigration and customs officials as well as a special army unit to help with the cross-border travels of Myanmar migrant workers who are going to the polls on Sunday.

A total of 5,926 Myanmar migrants reportedly departed from Thailand to Myanmar through Mae Sod border checkpoint during 1-6 November 2015, with many others expected to follow this evening and tomorrow morning.

Most were reportedly destined for Myawaddy, Kawkareik, and Hpa An inside Karen State.
