NAKHON RATCHASIMA:-- Nakhon Ratchasima provincial police command has set up a fact-finding to investigate a complaint by family of a drug suspect who died while in police custody.

The complaint was lodged by the mother of 34-year old Anant Kerdjaeng, a native of Pimai district, who was arrested by Nakhon Ratchasima provincial police seven days ago together with 15 methamphitamine pills in his possession.

Three days after his detention in police custody, the woman said she was told Mr Anant was already dead in what doctors at Nakhon Ratchasima Maharaj hospital diagnosed as death from serious brain injury.

She said that police came to her house and gave her 10,000 baht without giving her any details about her son’s death.

Pol Maj-Gen Thakoon Nattheesri, commander of the provincial police, assured the victim’s family that the case would be treated fairly.

Yeah right. Just like the dead man was.

it's execution without trail, seems like bad luck for the poor guy, must have kept falling down a few flights of stair until he got it right -- seems the BIB learned this lesson well during the war on drugs.

Did she keep the 10k? Imagine in a developed country the cops showing up with 1 months salary after someones kid had died in custody. Pretty sure the mother would throw it back in their face

I think perhaps a little too harsh interrogation methods used resulting in an unexpected death. But more than likely an autopsy will show he tried to escape through the bars and squeezed his head to much causing the death. Or some other crazy excuse.

Hopefully the BIB don't get to hear this new one - more than likely never used previously.

Yaa Baa causes death, destruction and financial ruin for the parents. The Pu yai's son in my village was caught selling yaa Baa at his university, he had 10 pills on him, his father had to pay 1.3 million Baht bail and the lawyers and court costs are going to cost a fortune, the lawyer reckons he will get 15 to 20 years in jail, end of his education and a good future, end of his families dreams for him. Selling Yaa Baa is not a petty crime. This has become a major problem for Thailand. A 16 year old girl in my village has become addicted, ran away from home and went on the streets to earn money to buy the drugs, she is now 5 months pregnant and in custody, her parents are good hard working people who are desperate with worry. I wont waste a tear on this man although i think extra-judicial killing is wrong.

What?

The BIB just showed up and handed over 10,000 baht?

What the <deleted> is up with law enforcement in this country?

"law enforcement" ok now I am lost. What does that have to do with Thailand?

Have they stopped remanding suspects in custody lately

dying in police custody seems to be a bit of a habit nowadays

unfortunately a very common practice of remand and police brutality across Asia. Oh these days in USA for sure, the web and youtube is full of such videos as a proof.

I was under the belief that the problem of brutality in the US of suspects was solved, replaced by shooting the baddies before arrest.
