Danielsiam Posted November 19, 2015 Share Posted November 19, 2015 Hello, since Alprazolam is banned or very strict controlled in Thailand ( I am not sure ), more than even the Diazepam or Zolpidem. Can I legally bring my Xanax to Thailand ? ( I have prescription as well but in French language, but it appear the name of drugs ) As I remember it's need a special authorization ?! for Alprazolam.. Foreign "prescriptions" are not accepted in Thailand Alprazolam is only legally available from hospital pharmacies with a Thai hospital doctors prescription. This is correct, and it's very cheap here. You can get it at most private hospitals after seeing a doctor there. What if I get caught by the customs at airport ? Blacklisted ? Fined ? Jailed ? I don't want to use the generic of GPO Sertraline of Thailand, I get very bad side effects! and Zoloft it's free charge on my country & so expensive in Thailand.. When i went to bumrungrad i just told them i'm anxious person and that's what my doctor in my home country prescribed me in case of panic attack and they prescribed it to me just like that. Also don't be tempted to buy it at street vendors, its probably shit. You might get it prescription free at some drugstore if you have a good argument. It actually happens sometimes and i saw the police officer just taking the medication excess and leaving you with some. As long as its not "drugs" its ok. In my experience they are not strict about the 30 day part as long as the quantities look consistent with personal use i.e. not a suitcase full. Zoloft as you probably know is not a controlled substance so the worst that could happen is that they'd confiscate the excess amount, no law broken. "Available from a randomly selected doctor in Bumrungrad" and "readily available" are 2 different animals. Sheryl's assessment is more valid for someone who needs it, and is coming to Thailand. Maybe---Maybe not. Flip a coin. Better bring some from home if it's important to you. Once you're in Thailand and find yourself in need, the Bumrungrad (or other foreign catering hospital) is the way to go. If it is controlled (as it seems Xanax is), you won't find it legally (or 100% guaranteed genuine) in any pharmacy outside a hospital. You may find some fakes in the same sidewalk kiosks that sell Viagra, and you may even find some dodgy pharmacists selling grey market product from behind the counter- but would you trust the quality from anyone willing to break the law by selling it at all? I found all that out the hard way when I needed a controlled medicine. With a few old emails from my doc's back home, and an empty bottle of the meds, I now get the meds from Bumrungrad refilled every 2 months- which is the limit for what the doctor in Bumrungrad is allowed to prescribe at one time. Doctor's fee is a tiny portion of the total cost of the meds (about $10 for the doc). A welcome change for anyone accustomed to paying $200 for a simple doctor's visit to get a new prescription back home. So there's no economic incentive to try to get around going to a doctor.
