Clinic owner surrenders to face charges filed by a young model

BANGKOK: The owner of the clinic who performed the breast augmentation operation on a young model that resulted in serious injury has reported himself to police yesterday.

He was identified as Mr Tanakorn Tanawintavara.

He surrendered to the superintendent of the 4th Subdivision in charge of consumer protection to answer for injuries sustained by a young model after a breast enhancement operation.

Thanakorn, the owner of a clinic located in Ladprao district was accompanied by his lawyer to hear charges against him.

The charges include illegal operation of a medical establishment without proper documentation or permits, the sale of medicines without permit and the sale of unregistered medicines.

The case made headlines after a young model filed a complaint with police which was then backed up by another complaint filed by representatives from the Paweena Hongsakun Foundation for the Protection of Women and Children.

On claims by the model that Thanakorn had personally injected filler into her in 2016, police investigators stated that this has yet to be ascertained and will have to await the results of a more detailed investigation.

Police authorities revealed that investigators are in the process of uncovering all the facts involved in the case as the operation was performed back in 2013.

Forgive me for being pedantic but nowhere was it stated that he was a doctor but it was stated that he carried out medical procedures.

I am under (possibly mistaken, but your obvious superior knowledge may confirm) that a qualified medical person should carry out these procedures.

So please read my post again with an open mind, if you can find one, the OP called him Mr. so unless he is a consultant, which I doubt, he is not medically qualified, probably.

I raised this question in the original thread, where the OP news report referred to the guy as being "uncertified."

You couldn't tell from that description whether it meant the guy actually was an MD, but just not certified to do the procedure he did (like if he was a foot doctor doing breast surgeries). Or, if "uncertified" meant the guy wasn't actually any kind of real MD at all.

Now, from the description above, it certainly appears that the guy wasn't actually any kind of MD at all, and the whole clinic was yet another of these seemingly flourishing Thai businesses that present themselves as medical clinics, when in fact, those operating them often have little or no medical training at all. And the procedures are done by any old Somchai who happens to work there.
