Clexane- thrombosis

Hi!

In February I'm traveling to Bangkok for 5 weeks. I have thrombosis and during long flights I need to take Clexane, and I will need few for return journey.

Can someone tell me, how can I buy / if I can clexane in Thailand ? Or maybe I need a prescription from a GP or a specialist ?

I think you will be able to get it here but it might be a good idea to bring some with you just incase you cant.Get a doctors note too.I wish you a safe journey Alouette

I will take extra Clexane with me but I'm worry about storage. It must be stored in temperature below 25 degrees - in first 2 weeks I will have a fridge in my hotel room but every trip / I'm going to visit Krabi at >30 degrees even in special container is pointless because I can not be sure if Clexane further will be the same ?

That's why im looking for someone who had a similar problem or suffer from thrombosis or is taking Clexane in Thailand.

It is available here, but is classed as a dangerous drug - only available from hospital pharmacies and larger pharmacies. No prescription required.

The storage instructions say not to refrigerate, so fridge in your hotel room isn't ideal.

I know that refrigerate isn't ideal but in 30 degree temperature keeping Clexane in fridge is better than not. Last year in Australia I keep it in 15 degree in fridge and it work quite well, but now to be 100% sure I would prefer to buy it in Thailand.

Why are you still taking it ?

After a 6 to 8 week regimen most patients are taken off it and put on warfarin

I had a deep vein thrombosis diagnosed here in Thailand and they started me on daily injections of heparin for 6 weeks and then moved me to warfarin (Coumadin)

Upon my return to the US my hematologist allowed be to do self INR testing every two weeks and I take 30 mg of warfarin per week to prevent any further blood clots

And my doctor knows that I travel 15 hours by plane to Thailand every year and has never advised any increase or change in dosage just because I travel, just the normal admonishment to move around every couple of hours and drink plenty of water to prevent dehydration

Extremely unlikely that Clexane will be found in a retail pharmacy.

You should obtain a letter from your doctor which details your need for Clexane.

Take the letter to one of the private hospitals and consult with one of the physicians. There should be no difficulty in obtaining a prescription based on your doctors letter. The consultation will at the most cost a 1000 Bht + with the cost of the Clexane being additional ( sorry I do not know the price) being dispensed from the hospital pharmacy.

Foreign prescriptions will not be accepted in Thailand.

If a prescription were required it would be an FDA Category S drug. It's not, it's Category D. No prescription required.

Perhaps next time you could try writing something factually accurate to help the OP.

I'm taking daily caps. Called Veselin due F. When I'm traveling by plane my doctor always gives me Clexane to prevent the formation of venous and arterial thrombus.

Don't know where you will be in Bangkok but there is a large pharmacy on Sukkhumit near soi 2, sort of across from the expressway. No guarantee they will have it but probably the best bet in Sukhumvit area.

I am over 70 and fly over 150,000 miles a year as an air courier. When I first began to do this, after a long flight my feet would be so swollen I could not get my shoes on. Obviously, DVT was a high risk.

I invested in several pair of high quality "compression stockings", specifically designed to prevent thrombosis and swelling. The result of using them is dramatic. Even after 15 hour flights, my feet and legs have no swelling at all.

Top quality compression stockings are not inexpensive: $25 to $50 a pair on Amazon and proper fit is paramount. There are several YouTube videos of how to properly measure yourself and get the correct fit.

They come in several lengths: calf high, knee high and full leg. I opted for the knee high and as I said, they work well for me but I suggest you ask your Dr. which would be best for you.

Thank you for your help dddave. I always traveling with my pair of compression socks. It was first thing that my Dr recommended for use when I'm travelling.

After few mails with this pharmacy company and long time from them to write back, I decided to take clexane with me in special cooling box and live it in my friend fridge.

One of the best pharmacies I have found here is Fascinos and they have branches dotted throughout Bangkok. They have a website to locate their locations  http://www.fascino.co.th/store-locator.html 

 

They may well be able to help as they supply many of the hospitals - their original (and possibly largest)  branch is on Thanon Wang Lang on the same road as Siriraj Hospital not far from the Grand Palace but on the other side of the river.

Fascino doesn't stock or sell clexane - Not many pharmacies (outside of hospitals) actually do. 

 

DKSH - Does not sell Clexane to private individuals (they only service hospitals).

 

Petcharat Pharmacy - Opposite Siriraj Hospital (Phone: 087-191-1917 / 081-250-2662) - I've been told they have stock : 1 Box of Clexane 40mg = 650 baht (2 x 40 mg injections per box).

 

I've purchased Clexane from Patcharat in July. 

Today (Sept 29th) they are not answering any of their numbers however, I therefore suspect their service is hit & miss.

Has anyone had any luck with using Xarelto instead ???

 

This Oral Blood thinner is something I would considering instead of injecting Clexane before flights (of course, only after consultation with my Dr.).

 

I have questions regarding the feasibility of replacing Clexane with Xarelto for pre-flight single dosage.
