BANGKOK: -- Over 80 percent of people responding to an opinion poll want political parties to announce their candidates for the prime minister’s post before an election, according to Nida Poll.

Nida Poll of the National Institute of Development Administration surveyed the opinions of 1,251 respondents aged over 18 of different walks of life during November 16-18 about the proposal for political parties to announce their candidates for the premiership before the election.

The poll shows 87.61 percent support the proposal compared to 9.9 percent who disagree with 2.4 percent undecided.

The poll also shows the following results: 68.18 percent say the announcement by political parties has influence over their decisions on how to vote while 29.26 percent say it has no influence whatsoever on their decision-makings with 2.56 percent undecided.

About the number of candidates for the premiership to be announced by parties, the poll shows the following results: 38.45 percent say one candidate for each party should be enough; 37.09 percent say three candidates each; 10.47 percent opt for five candidates and 6.4 percent opt for 2,4 and 10 candidates.

Probably this NIDA poll is more accurate than the ones conducted on how popular is the current Prime Minister, CDC take note the people have spoken , then again a NIDA poll is interpreted to what you like to make it , like we do ...........................................coffee1.gif

Do you actually believe any NIDA poll?

Announcing their candidates sure makes it easier to start digging up dirt to impeach them before they are ever elected.

Thais has observed that "what works in the West does not necessarily work here", and they are correct.

I am ambivalent about this one altogether.

This survey cannot be acceptable.

Leadership from both the PTP and Democrats dennounced the "PM candidate list" as "quite unnecessary." The Nation 2015-11-13

In the 2011 election those two parties combined represented 83.5% of the vote. NIDA's survey would have you beileve that both parties have since completely lost all their supporters. If that were true I'd expect the junta would hold the referendum and elections immediately!

Hmh - NIDA also was participating with Suthep to bring Bangkok to a standstill.

All this talk about who should be the PM is ridiculous. The people vote the for the party who they consider will provide the best future for them and the country. The Leader of that party is elected by the party hence he is obviously the best to lead as PM. This is the system in England, Australia, New Zealand and most democratic governments who have a parliamentary system. If that PM becomes unpopular because of policies introduced or unfulfilled promises he is either changed as the leader of the party and the new leader becomes PM, as recently happened in Australia. If the party does not elect a new leader then a new election is called for because of members of the ruling party voting with the opposition.

Then those 80% are stupid. That is the system in many countries and the party simply nominate their cronies.

So you think that politicians always represent and speak the views of the people who elected them?

So the 314-0 vote in favor of an Amnesty Bill was fully representative of all those who voted for PTP? Not IME it wasn't.

Amazing.

In other words, junta is telling the parties by way of a poll suggestion, to put forward their candidates........ so the junta can weed out the ones they don't approve of.
