Police provide free medical services for low-income earners

BANGKOK, 23 November 2015 (NNT) - The Royal Thai Police has provided free medical services for low-income earners to improve public health and public relations.

Royal Thai Police Chief Pol Gen Chaktip Chaijinda revealed that the medical services were organized in Klongtoey district under a police campaign to promote healthy living.

The medical services, which included dental care, health checks and eye exams, were provided for local residents by medical staff from Police General Hospital. Klongtoey residents also received free haircuts and vocational training.

Those in need of follow-up treatments are advised to visit Police General Hospital, where medical fees will be waived. The Police Chief said the campaign will be held again at different venues until the end of this year.

That sounds peachy.

Given the RTP's reputation though, I'm a bit skeptical to take it at face value.

PM blow-hard claims to be on the warpath against corruption in the RTP & all of a sudden they get involved in freebies for the "poor".

Hope I'm wrong, but I fail to see how/what/why/where the cops should be involved in healthcare when they can't even find time to do their jobs in the first place.

Totally agree------All this medical should be provided under the health scheme, basics are catered for.

I also know that if you are treated WITHIN the district of your ID dental care is more or less free...

Ask Thai people and they are not sure if treatment is free, just look at all the treatable disabled sat around at home--or begging--why is there not treatment for orthopedic disabled people......

Look around at all the corrupt practices in and out of business, and the state of some Thai people.

To my mind all disabled persons are looked upon as a burden. How many wheelchairs do you see in rural areas ???

There is a branch of government that is supposed to be responsible for that - isn't there? It's called the Ministry of Public Health - Right? So why is the RTP trying to usurp the role of the MPH? Is the RTP qualified to provide those services?

My point exactly.

It wreaks of currying favor to me, almost as bad as vote-buying or Obamaphones.

Free to those who pay a small commission

And once again we are talking about "poor people" - free bus, free medical care, free haircuts...

Can somebody please tell me: who are considered "poor" in Thailand?

People without income?

How is this checked?

People who do not pay income tax?

Including not working wife, fiancé, BG of Farang?

People who know somebody that says they are poor?

Nobody knows. It's just political pandering to the masses = currying favor = something for nothing = socialism = communism.

Take your pick.

I don't earn any income at all, can I get some of that too?

i had to re-read that headline, what the hell has it got to do with the police, why dont they just get on and do the job they are supposed to be doing properly.

Kind of a 1 stop service - you get arrested, taken for questioning and then straight to the hospital to recover. Brilliant!

That sounds peachy.

In our wee Soi, we have 2 individuals in wheelchairs, their lives are confined to the Soi, even their families, one of whom has 2 vehicles, take them nowhere. It is very sad. Hospital provision that is essentially "free" is essentially a "joke". I pass a large number of poor souls whose existence is based upon living on a hard bench outside their homes with nothing to do all day. State assistance outside the hospital environment appears to be almost nil.

Maybe, just maybe they are paying back for all the money they took from poor hard working people.

Is it remotely possible they have a conscience?

Oh come on, why can't I think positive thoughts about these efforts? Ok, now I'm just laughing.

Police giving vocational training? What's that, the correct swing of the elbow when receiving a brown letter?

Does it matter a rat's arse who gives medical treatment to the poor -

With Nestle setting up schemes to improve the health situation of Thais, the police could not stay behind.

Wish RTP would concentrate on Crime and Accident prevention and leave the medical matters to the Government Hospitals set up mainly for Thai people.

I don't see where it says that actual police are providing this service: medical staff at the Police Hospital is what it says in the article. But don't 't let that get in the way of bitching.

yes its just a campaign

Sounds like Prison Life is improving in Thailand.

I wonder if the guy that cuts your hair there is the same guy who cuts the trees along the Boulevards, because my last haircut in Thailand sure looks a lot like those trees.

They use the honour system, we all know Thais are good law abiding honourable Buddhists with a conscience, don't we?

Yes it does if it's a corrupt, farcical vote-buying scam, like the rice buying fiasco was/is.

It was set up to "Help the poor" also.

Now that sounds like a conflict in terms, Nestlé and health.

The major difference just might be some benefit coming from the medical help, whereas there certainly wasn't any benefit for the rice growers coming from the rice scheme.

If the army can build theme parks for the people, then the cops can provide health services.

Seems job descriptions in Thailand are pretty vague.

RTP have been giving 'haircuts' for years.
