Has anyone heard of this happening before. Yesterday the village head came to our house with a document that came from Ampur in Nang Rong that had been sent from Buriram asking for all Farang living in the village to be listed ( name, address, age, but no passport number) also how long you would be staying 3,6,9,12 months or permanent.

Way back in the '30's in Germany, didn't it start in a similar way? :o

WEll a few months ago the Police came round to my house nad produced a Warrant card as he was in Civvies, he wanted my details , copy of passport etc.

But not heard about these forms unless another province or Amphur are doing it differently.

The reason for the details was they had had a scenario where a Farang was harbouring another who was wanted.

On the outer rim of Buriram, we were all told by Loong Dang that we had to go and see the police with copy of Passport, wife etc (they were too busy catching people without crash helmets)

No reason was given apart from 'just checking'

edit...typo

Its not just in Isaan, I've had the police come by every few years for about 6 or so years on Koh Phangan in Surat Thani. There was never any form for me to fill out, no copies of passport, it just seemed to be a count of farang living on the island.

Same in Buriram, they just like to know who is living there permenant, and who comes and go's, no real problem, had them at my place many a time, if i am there when they appear i give them a beer, no problem,

the amount of ferangs around Buriram now is in the thousands so i was told about a year ago, h e l l when i first went there, you would not see another ferrang for about a week, there use to be a couple in the old Embassy, ( drinking establishment), good mates of mine, and they are still living there, that was 12 years ago, how times change.

My husband hasn't mentioned anything about the village headman coming around, before it was always the police.

They do it every couple of years,

Now thats :o all very worrying. does anyone know the reason ?

They do this in my Moo Ban from time to time.

It,s usually a policeman, but all it is a courtesy call, he passes on a local contact no. and is nothing to be concerned about. :D

It,s a 2 way thing and assists both parties should anything unusual arise.

in my humble opinion of course.
