A woman was killed and three of her family members injured in Mondulkiri province following the explosion of a decades-old grenade on Saturday, according to local authorities.

Pech Chreada district police chief Sao Sovannarith reported that the device was found by an ethnic Phnong family’s 6-year-old son, who was swimming in a local river and retrieved the item for his mother to sell.

As Sovannarith explained, the boy’s father, Yel Min, told police that as soon as he saw the device he shouted for the children not to play with it, but the boy tossed it to his mother, Plol Pcherng, who was killed instantly when it exploded at her feet. The two children were seriously injured and hospitalised in Mondulkiri, while Min was only slightly wounded

This is a heart wrenching tragedy. Nearly 50 years down the road that misguided war continues to destroy innocent every day families struggling to scratch out a living. Henry Kissinger should be extradited to the Hague and tried for his crimes against humanity. This father's case, just one among the many hundreds of thousands, is a stark reminder that once the dogs of war are loosed they can never be completely contained. My heart goes out to him and the two children.

Over in Belgium farmers are still ploughing up weapons, live ammunition and sometimes skeletons from WW1.

In the UK and more in Germany more, live bombs from WW2 are still being discovered. In the coastal waters off the UK, sea mines are still found and destroyed on a monthly basis so please do not blame the Americans for everything.

IIRC a WW2 bomb was found in BKK last year.
