Husband Sought in Slaughter of Family

Two young children, their mother and their grandmother were hacked to death on Monday night in Kampong Cham’s Chamkar Leu’s Speu commune after a quarrel between the mother and her husband – who had returned home drunk – quickly escalated, provincial police said.

They said Eng Thy, 47, began arguing with his wife, Chanthy Sopheany, 45, after returning home drunk and that she took their daughter Thy Seanghy, six, and son Thy Seiha, four, to her parents’ home next door to ensure their safety.

Deputy police commissioner Bum Born said the suspect – who remains at large – set the family’s clothing on fire after his wife fled their home with their children. Neighbors, however, extinguished the fire before it spread, Mr. Born said.
