Police across the Kingdom will set up checkpoints as part of the launch of a major traffic crackdown next month in a bid to reduce the alarming number of deaths and injuries from road accidents.

An estimated six people die every day and 16 are injured across the country, police officials said yesterday.

National Police Commissioner General Neth Savoeun said police would target key traffic areas such as ports, parking lots, weigh-bridges and driving schools. Wrongdoers would face the full weight of the law, he added.

“We will also target fines for driving without a license, speeding, not obeying traffic signs and signals, driving under the influence of alcohol, not wearing seat belts and overloading vehicles, among other things,” he said.
