Foreign Affairs Ministry to host fifth Thai – U.S Strategic Dialogue

BANGKOK, 12 December 2015 (NNT) – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the United States Department of State will organize the fifth Thai – U.S. Strategic Dialogue on December 16, 2015 at the ministry's headquarters in Bangkok.

Apichart Chinwanno, undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Daniel R. Russel, assistant to the U.S. Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs, will co-chair the Dialogue.

The Dialogue will be held under the context of more positive and constructive relationships between Thailand and the U.S., given the opportunity for both sides to enhance their cooperation in areas of mutual interests including defense and security; trade and investment; education; science and energy.

Both sides will focus on the cooperation which will benefit development areas at regional and global levels such as public health; human trafficking and irregular migration; transnational crime and peacekeeping activity. Furthermore, both sides will also discuss some regional issues of mutual interests, including the South China Sea issue; the cooperation in the ASEAN and LMI region as well as current affairs in Thailand’s neighboring countries.

The Thai – U.S. Strategic Dialogue, first held in 2005, is the channel and mechanism to ensure mutual understanding and trust between the two countries. It calls for discussion and exchange of views and information related to the issue of politics, security, economics, socio – culture and regional and global issues in which Thailand and the U.S. may have common interests.

The fifth Strategic Dialogue was originally scheduled to be hosted by Thailand in 2013, to further strengthen and deepen the U.S.-Thai partnership. Good luck with that agenda now. Especially if the RTP (aka NCPO) decides to arrest Russel for LM and incitement of public conflict violations.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't dialogue, in this context, the spoken conversational exchange between two or more groups (implying that both parties also listen to each other)?

Can't see the US having very many common interests with Thailand in sociocultural and political issues.

Times are difficult now, but hopefully, things will return to normal in a few years. Or as normal as they can be here! LOL

WOW so they will share there cure for EBOLA? sounds to me it will be about Thailands hand out palm up asking for money. Maybe this China train deal going sore as we speak.
