Suggest you do a Google for: thailand knife making

I've seen one of the knife makers from Uthai Thani at Future Park a couple of times, good stuff.

Cannot help you re Thailand but i have a knife from this fellow. It took a looong time to come!! however Gough has only recently gone full time and mostly online. You might enjoy his profile, his you-tubes that he has presented even if it is just for the craft. I will say he is honest and true felllow, at least my dealings with him have been so.

Good luck with you search for this kind of artisanship though.

I bought a pretty cool all handmade knike from a local bladesmith a few years ago. It was in a Japanese style with the handle finished with what you would expect on a samurai sword. I bought it at the Tank Store in Central World. They used to have a huge assortment of handmade knives from tge states as well......If you go there ask to talk with the owner. He is a huge collector and could point you in the right direction.

Also I have knives, hand forged from the Citadel in Cambodia. These knives are not cheap. The Thai blade is small and is a neck knife and was 4000b.....the ones from Cambodia were about 1000$US for the pair.

I believe good knives are all about the quality of the metal. I'd look yo Japan of Germany.

That was helpful.....

Certainly knives are all about the quality of the blade materials, but if those materials are available in Thailand (which they are) such as S30V, ZDP-189, S35VN, etc, and there is a qualified blade smith, why look to another country?

Citadel in Cambodia is a world class forge. The Frenchman who opened it there brought his trade there and taught local craftsmen. They win all kinds of awards for there stuff. They shine in the Katana cutting competitions. They make some beautiful things. My Thai blade is d4 steel. Most of my folders are s30v..........

do you have any pics? and or a website for citadel or the tank store in central world? i take it that is bkk. i am in pattaya, i will also try googling citadel

thanks

Yes the Tank Store is in Bkk. Central World Trade. They carry a lot of cool stuff. They sell SureFire flashlights as well....

I'm really sold on Damascus steel knives. A blacksmith hammer welds strips of steel and iron, and then folds and fluxes and welds over and over until he has many layers. When the knife is sharpened the iron wears more than the steel which also helps keep the thin steel edge sharp. I have a really old paring knife in the kitchen that's always the sharpest knife I have no matter how much I paid for the others.

hi

thanks for the tip.. after a couple of clicks i found his website at www.yunaknives.com

he does mostly foldables and really i was looking for a straight blade but as an award winner in america, be has a 2 yr waiting list . I dont have 2 yrs unfortunatly, but great tip

Real men dont carry knives, they use them for work,

They might help you remove the price tags from your new Barbies for your collection.
