BANGKOK:-- Highway and Taling Chan local police seized 28 cars and pickup trucks and detained over 20 racers and supporters after they blocked traffic on a section of Kanchanapisek motorway to race last night.

The mass arrest came after police received tipoff that these racers were making appointment on social media to gather on the motorway in front of the office of Samakhom Pak Tai Association to begin a race.

A plan to arrest and seize their vehicles was then worked out with the use of Taling Chan police, highway police and volunteers.

The plan included the use of heavy trucks blocking both ends of the motorway’s express lanes from Kilometre 23 to Kilometre 27.

As over 100 cars and pickup trucks that were modified for racing proposed arrived to start the race, the police then swooped on the place and heavy trucks began blockading both ends of the expressway section.

Traffic on the motorway section was closed.

But over half of the racers and their vehicles managed to escape through the unblocked exits due to insufficient police personnel to man all exits on parallel lanes.

Only 28 vehicles, 20 cars and eight pickup trucks were seized along with drivers and their passengers.

They were taken to Taling Chan police station and would face three charges, driving with no regard to safety of others, street racing and illegal modification of vehicles.

Their vehicles were transported to Bang Khae Highway Police Office for inspection.

This was great police work and a genuine benefit to society to get these wreckless drivers off the public streets.

Excellent.

Sorta.

I think they managed to take enough vehicles to certainly make those who were lucky enough to get away this time think twice about risking their vehicles again...

Hope the police upload footage of the vehicles being scrapped on to YouTube

Yesterday i drove my motocy in a group of scooters in Bang Sue BKK.

We went around the corner and there was a checkpoint, police all over the road.

More then half of the scooterdrivers stopped, turned 180 degree's and just drove against traffic.

The police didn't do anything.

cheesy.gif Thailand only!

I know what you mean... :)

They don't stay longer than, 30-45"min in 1 location so it's hard to mobilise a police "Crackdown" of they're constantly changing location every 30min or so

Is hard to get enough officer's to the scene fast enough to be effective, unless we gave the officers real and absolute power and that will never happen here....

Yes.

But fines are typically very low for the ones caught.

Let's see if we get any follow up reports.

A few baht doesn't always work

I've had mates who got their entire bike confiscated and they don't ride scooters lol

A good friend got a hayabusa taken from him at rayong one day because it was a suspected grey import..... And he's Thai so they don't only rip the white man

.. They rip whoever

....

I wouldn't compare illegally imported motorcycles to modified cars.

Most of them probably not modified or just mildly.

Let's hope for follow up reports to settle the score.

No charges made with respect to blocking off a public motorway?

Surely large trucks can be traced and the owners punished.

I guess you missed the part of the story where the trucks were positioned by the Police

Sounds like you are proud of yourself and your stupid and dangerous actions. I hope that the next time you drive against traffic on a motorway you end up under an 18-wheeler.

Check the thread about progessive lenses dude.....maybe then you can read properly....i have nothing to fear from the police and they didn't bother me when i passed them.

They're was a huge drag race on dindeang rd last week, hundreds of kids on modified scooters blocked the road for awhile, quite entertaining to watch for awhile but I was wondering where tf is the so called police force....

The scooter race outside our house last night had a Police escort. I thought at first great here are the Police to stop this. But how wrong I was when the Police car was then followed by all these kids on bikes and realised there were clearing the road for them. What happened to this clamp down on these 7 days? Went on past midnight and non were wearing helmets. Crazy. Edited by bim

Well no helmet only hurts in case of accident but no glasses is even more stupid imo. There are so many mozzies and bugs flying around who really hurt the eyeballs if going 100 + km/hr.

Your so right. That would explain why they were riding with there head to the side and not watching where they were going.
