BANGKOK — The Myanmar Journalists Association is urging its Thai counterpart to work together and “reveal the truth” behind the conviction of two Myanmar men for the killings of two British backpackers in southern Thailand last year.

Egypt convicts 2 policemen over deadly abuse of detainees

Thais urged to defer travel to Myanmar

China expels French reporter who questioned terrorism

Uighur man nabbed in Jakarta ‘not linked to Erawan bomb’

JAKARTA: The Royal Thai Police has contacted the Indonesian branch of Interpol for details after it was reported that an ethnic Uighur suspect arrested in a counter-terrorism raid in the Jakarta suburb of Bekasi on December 23 may be linked to the Erawan shrine bombing in August.

NHRC objects to drop in status level

BANGKOK: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has written a letter objecting to the Sub-Committee on Accreditation (SCA)’s proposal for the International Coordinating Committee of National Institutions for the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights (ICC) to lower the agency’s status from “A” to “B”.

Chinese mine boss drowns himself after deadly collapse


BEIJING (AP) — The owner of a Chinese gypsum mine drowned Sunday after jumping into a well in an apparent suicide during rescue efforts for 17 workers still trapped two days after the mine collapsed and killed one person, state media said.
