5 illegal migrants caught working on fishing trawler

THAILAND -- The First Naval Region arrested five undocumented Cambodian migrant workers on a fishing |trawler off Chon Buri’s Koh Chuang.

The Tor 91 coastal patrol boat |captured the "Sor Manachai Wari 3" trawler and its crewmembers at around 9.30pm on Sunday and towed it to the navy's mid-sea port in Sattahip district.

The trawler's owner, identified as Lamul Samsi, 60, was summoned yesterday to hear the charges of harbouring illegal migrants and having an illegal migrant control the trawler - a violation of the Fisheries Act 2015, which addresses illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing in Thai waters.

Yes, we all know where your priorities lie, Thailand.

Well, they should be put in chains and forced to work at hard labor for 100 baht a month!

Wot... are you saying give them a pay-rise???

Pretty sure the workers will get jailed and the owner will have no penalty applied.

Nice substitute headline. But not one the domestic newspapers dare print because of swingeing defamation laws, which urgently need to be changed if Thailand is to become anything like a democracy.

Illegal migrants, more like Slaves.

No shortage of the usual banal comments by the TV set who seem to view life through the bottom of their beer glasses.

If the workers entered the country illegally the they rightfully should be charged and thrown in jail. If they were trafficked then I expect the boat will end up seized and the captain jailed.

It's fairly obvious that Thailand is taking the entire illegal fishing requirements and human trafficking in the seafood industry fairly seriously - boats seized, companies closed, and traffickers and victims detained for prosecution.

The fact that they were detected at all is evidence enough that boats are being inspected both on water and while tied up.

Thailand Government Riled by AP Claim It Ignored Human Trafficking

What are the chances this is what happens nearly every time a boat is caught using slave labor here? Instead of the National headlines "Another Thai fishing vessel nabbed with slaves aboard, boat impounded, Captain and company CEO face life in prison", we see this kind of fictitious drivel. No responsibility. No loss of face nor loss of boat, nor loss of money. Just blame it on the slaves. Turn a victim into a greater victim.

Just a guess. But, who knows? It does sound fishy.

Seriously, dudes? Those pesky migrant workers secretly sneaked on board and were caught?!

Another naive fantasist with highly selective observational skills.

"I expect the boat will end up seized and the captain jailed [...] It's fairly obvious that Thailand is taking the entire illegal fishing requirements and human trafficking in the seafood industry fairly seriously"

About the same level of claptrap propaganda as his parasite idols. Comes in starting with insults for the rest of us and winds up absurdly out of touch and content free.

Illegal migrants, more like Slaves.

I'm not convinced. A Cambodian was in charge of the boat!
