Bt400,000 award offered for tips on schoolgirl killer

THAILAND -- The Provincial Police Region 4 Monday put up a Bt400,000 cash prize for anyone who can provide information leading to the arrest of the man who killed an 18-year-old schoolgirl in a rape attempt in Kalasin’s Rong Kham district on December 23.

Police suspect that the culprit might be someone living in the same village or nearby, and have interrogated and taken DNA samples from about five suspects. Results of the tests are still pending.

It is believed that the attacker - possibly someone the victim knew or someone who wanted to harm her - might have followed the young girl home from school, where a sports event was being held, Kalasin deputy police chief Colonel Wichien Pinduang said.

Points make prizes roll up for all the fun of the game and win the big prize, you would have thought as to show a bit of respect and compassion for the grieving family they could have offered a reward rather than winning a prize or is the prize money for police competitors only.

They will find someone to get the reward. Then hopefully sometime after, they find the real murderer.

It only confirms the RTP ability to investigate a crime when after 5 days they need to offer a reward.

What time would be more appropriate to offer a reward? Please give us an instant between the event and 5 days and your logic behind nominating it.

BTW rewards are normally offered to increase public assistance when initial investigations fail to turn up sufficient evidence.

Meanwhile, grief-stricken relatives and friends of the young victim - who fought her attacker and later succumbed to fatal injuries - attended cremation rites yesterday and urged police to speed up the investigation and find the culprit.
