THAILAND -- Poonpol Asavahame, a former MP and the second son of fugitive and influential political figure Vatana Asavahame, died of heart failure at his home in Samut Prakan province early on Tuesday. He was 48.

Phra Samut Chedi district police were informed that Poonpol, chairman of the Sports Association of Samut Prakan, was found lying dead on a deckchair in a small wooden house in the compound of his residence in tambon Laem Fa Pha at about 4am.

He was wearing an athletic shirt and shorts and a pair of canvass shoes. It was believed he was about to leave his house for regular morningexercise.

Doctors who examined his body said Poonpol suddenly collapsed after a heart failure. He was recently released from hospital after treatment of an illness.

Born on Aug 4, 1957, Poonpol was the second of three sons of Mr Vatana, a former deputy interior minister and influential figure of Samut Prakan. He received bachelors and masters degrees in business administraton from the United States. His elder and younger brothers are Piboon and Chonsawat Asavahame.

Poonpol was banned from politics for five years on Jan 8, 2004 by the National Anti-Corruption Commission for intentionally concealing his assets and liabilities.

...dunno who he was....rip.... but some others posted some of his very nasty actions in the past...

....no disrespect...but by what criteria was he picked for the position of 'Chairman of The Sports Association'...
