Bite Me Bistro--Best New Place in Town

Bite Me Bistro is across the street from New York Pizza on 3rd Road at the top of Soi Lengkee. Jingthing, you can walk it from Soi Buakow--only a few hundred meters. :D

Yes, I think it's the best new place in town. Why? Excellent food and excellent value.

I had the seared tuna with seaweed and picked vegetables with a ponzu dressing. The tuna was excellent and a good-sized portion, a perfect lunch for me. The beautifully cooked tuna was sweet and the pickled vegetables gave a great acid balance.

My friend had a pork fillet with a Jack Daniels BBQ sauce and a potato and some salad. This was also very nice--perfectly cooked with a great balance of flavors, a very substantial portion for 290 baht. Knocked my friend out and he's napping now.

The place is cozy--I'm more about food than atmosphere, so I'll leave that to others, but clearly a lot of thought has gone into the place. The food is presented very nicely and professionally--like you'd expect to find in a much more expensive place.

This guy knows expats like me--we can get absolutely wonderful Thai food for a fairly low price, so it's hard to pry us away even though we do like variety. Well, this place is not *that* much more than a good Thai meal. Great value. I didn't take any pics, and don't want to use any stolen ones, but I wanted to let people know right away. The guy just opened yesterday apparently.

They've got a Facebook page if you want more info.

Yes, you can walk it from Soi BuaKhao, but the amount of decent restaurants that open on 3rd Road but do not last a year says it all.

I agree--but this guy seems in it for the long haul. Starting slow and building up based on quality. I'm usually skeptical of new businesses in Patters, but I'm cautiously optimistic about this one.

I hope Jingthing decides to give it a go. I'm guessing he'll like it.

Edit: by the way, New York Pizza house opposite this guy has had a nice run so far.

I'll probably try it. The food looks nice but not definitely more bistro than more ambitious than that, which is fine by me. What is the chef's nationality? The facebook page mentions they will be doing well priced lunch sets as well. The name of the place sounds like it was inspired by the famous Bangkok place EAT ME which BTW was one of the first places I ate when I first came to Thailand.

Good luck, I hope he does well. It's a tough location up there on 3rd Rd but, as previous poster said, New York Pizza House has managed to survive, and he's on the 'wrong' side of 3rd Rd. Also Retox, a little down Soi Lengkee is packing the punters in so it can be done with good operators in control.

I don't think it's comparable to New York Pizza because they do a MASSIVE amount of DELIVERY business and it is well known as having one of the most amazingly efficient DELIVERY operations in town. I do agree it could be a difficult location for a bistro like this but not impossible if the food is really good and the location means they should be able to keep their prices down.

For all our sakes I hope they include a soup. [emoji12]

Ha ha. If it is a set likely it will include some of these elements: a small appetizer, a soup, a salad, a protein, a starch, a side vegetable. For lunch probably not all of those.

The first post reads like sales pitch.

Whereas the post before yours gives the standard lack of encouragement expected from many posters on this forum.

Good luck to the guy and I am all for additions to the current restaurant scene.

I will give it a try on my next visit.

...... if he is still there!!

That makes three fairly upmarket bistro places in that area (one directly opposite and the other a couple of hundred yards towards South Road). And there's l'Adresse round the corner in Chaiyapoon which is also a bistro but somewhat cheaper.

I agree that a set lunch would be a good way to get people in there.

What I found very odd about Bite Me (apart from the name) is that from outside it doesnt seem to be an eat-in restaurant at all. I walked past it several times without realising what it was. They really ought to do something about the signs.

Anyway, here's the menu for anyone interested:

He will close just like all the other ones except if ge has saving and can live without profit.

I've not seen food this good and well presented at these prices before. I hope he has got it right and stays around.

Well, I've lived in Pattaya for many years, and I never met the owner until the day I ate there, nor do I have any association with them.

I am aware how hard it is to make a go of it in Pattaya, so when a place is good, I like to encourage them.

It is to every foodie's benefit to have people who know how to make good food in business in our area. I only hope to make those foodies aware of this place so that hopefully I can continue to eat their for a long time.

He's been doing specials every day--you can see them on his Facebook page I believe. Otherwise join the Wine & Dine group on Facebook (I don't know why it's a closed group). That's where I first heard about the place.

I walk past often but never see a menu on display or tables outside sad.png it gave me the impression of being an order and pick up joint sorry-when you consider the well established alternatives in the area it will take something very special to get this place up and running wai2.gif

I'd be interested to know if the OP has some interest in this business?

As I walked past this place the other day and looked at their menu on their Facebook page, neither interested me at all.

Furniture inside looked pretty crappy and the menu seemed just as boring.

I hardly say it looks like the best new place in town.

Neither do I. Even if you do request to join they apparently ignore the request anyway (maybe inverse Groucho Marx club syndrome: "we're not going to accept the sort of person who would want to join us").

I live near the area and have seen many places last a year and leave, not enough foot traffic , poor location, no bug hotels near bye. as for New Yor Pizza its business has dropped since Dominoes and Pizza Pizza opened and rather deliver which is a plus..I wish the guy the best.

But, I live in a complex with 45 retired Expats and none of them would pay those price3s when they can walk down Soi Lengkee or Soi Chaiyaphum and find a meal for 159 to199 baht

That may change as that huge new LK place is opening just across the street.

I have to agree though that for many people 3rd road is not the most obvious location for restaurants like this. I imagine that it's a question of rental prices, and possibly the operators are thinking of parking for people who have cars and live further away. I do often park on 3rd road when going to eat in or around Soi Buakow.

If you had read my posts, you would have realized I already answered that question: I have no interest in the place. I met the owner for the first time the only time I went to the place. I learned about the place on Facebook the day before I tried it.

Obviously as *I* posted this it is *to me* the best new place in town.

Bite me. smile.png

What next?

"Suck on this"?

Yep, with a name like that.

Wouldn't even bother. blink.png

The name of a business can matter some times. wai2.gif

I wouldn't be so sure about that.

In my view, the name is excellent.

It gets your attention.

Now they need to keep people's attention by getting people to try their food and return if it's really as good as the OP says.

Maybe this could be why.

Still would not go in with a name like Bite me.

Bite me is typically used as a US idiomatic expression of discontent or annoyance with another party. According to the Online Slang Dictionary: a command, similar to "Go to hell!" (i.e. "Leave me alone!"30 May 2011

Again, the name is cool, it's not a problem.

On the other hand they'd probably get even more attention if they called it Hitler's Bistro. Remember, this isn't Kansas City.

No, it sounds crap.

That's my opinion and im allowed that, even on the food threads. wai2.gif

If it was called Hitler's Bistro at least passers-by would know it served food.

They could research the Fuehrer's favorite dishes and reinterpret them for a modern bistro setting.
