PHUKET: -- Key officials and industry leaders have initiated the development of an investment institute in Phuket in order to aid those looking to investment on the island.

“Phuket already has a Board of Investment (BOI) to guide investors about matters of private and public investments. However, in the past, investors have often been bogged down due to limited understanding of environmental issues and investment processes, which hinders the smooth flow of business activity,” said Phuket Governor Chamroen Tipayapongtada.

“Establishing an institute at Provincial Hall will provide a convenient one-stop solution for investors. The proposed institute will guide them through the entire process of investment, from start to finish.”

I very well know one of the men in that photo. Not going to identify due to Thai defamation laws.

He was kicking about very senior local gov positions 20 years ago, kept on being moved about local areas for his dodgy land deals where he skimmed a lot off the top, ended up at a desk with no authority about 8 years ago. Considered a joke in local authority. I socialised with him at many BBQ parties to celebrate his latest land deal 15 years ago. He confided to me he had made more than a million US dollars in the bank. He aspired to a Phuket Deputy Governorship, he even introduced me to the then Deputy Governor.

So now he is one of the 'key officials and industry leaders' for 'those looking to investment on the island'.

God help those newbies wanting to invest in Phuket ...
