The ruling Cambodian People’s Party’s decision-making central committee will hold its annual congress this weekend on Phnom Penh’s Koh Pich. CPP spokesman Sous Yara confirmed the meeting though declined to elaborate on the agenda. However, talking to local media, Sok Eysan, who Post Weekend could not reach yesterday, said the party was set to discuss strategy ahead of next year’s commune elections.

“The two-day congress will mainly focus on preparations for the 2017 communal elections and achievements,” Eysan said. “Samdech [Deputy Prime Minister] Sar Kheng will give an address on the preparation of the communal elections, and lastly [attendees] will listen to Prime Minister Hun Sen on Sunday before closing the congress.”
