Ministry of Transport set to expand transportation routes throughout 2016

BANGKOK, 11 January 2016 (NNT) - The Ministry of Transport has set plans to continuously construct transportation routes in 2016. The construction of the Bang Yai – Kanchanaburi motorway is expected to begin in June this year.

Transport Minister Arkhom Termpittayapaisith said that in 2015 the ministry improved many land, water and air transportation routes as planned in an effort to help stimulate the country’s tourism and economy. In 2016, the ministry would expand its existing projects such as two double track rail lines and three motorways, said Mr.Arkhom.

The Bang Yai – Kanchanaburi motorway, one of the three mortorways, will be an important economic route connecting Thailand with Myanmar.

As for the ministry’s 10 electric train projects, Mr.Arkhom said he would submit them to the Cabinet for approval and expected to open bidding for all of them. The expansion of electric trains would be included in the 12th National Economic and Social Development Plan, the minister added.
