TNSC forecasts 2% export growth

BANGKOK: -- Thai National Shippers’ Council (TNSC) has forecast a 2% export growth for exports this year, citing global economic slowdown as main reason. The 5% export projection set by the government is not easy to achieve, it says.

TNSC deputy chairman Wallop Vittanakorn said the government’s export growth target of 5% would be difficult to achieve due to the slowing global economy.

Instead he was optimistic the Thai export should expand in Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam and he urged exporters to target major cities in these countries as their export destinations instead of border towns.

He called on the government to be more serious in helping Thai exporters penetrate new markets.

Meanwhile Thai Military Bank (TMB Bank),’s research centre predicted that Thailand’s exports should grow at 1.8% this year.

It said Thai exports will be besieged by several trading barriers including illegal fishing and GDP privilege cut.

However, it viewed that the Thai investment and consumption have shown sign of improvement due to increasing confidence of investors.

Heheeee I love it. Here we have them saying that Thai investment have shown signs of improvement due to increasing confidence and at the same time in a related article the headlines state investor confidence will be down by March. It just goes to show that one hand has absolutely no idea what the other hand is doing, or in this case, saying!

Pretty steep expectations for exports especially since they don't know the outcome of British on whether they will get a red card for their seafood exports.

That doesn't matter, then they just export it to Russia, China or another place.

If they sell all seafood in Thailand it might become the hub of seafood which can attract loads of tourists! I wished seafood was reasonable priced in Thailand but it isn't.

"the Bank of Thailand expects export growth to be flat this year, with its forecast taking into account a sharper slowdown in China and other Asian economies, the adverse impact of geopolitical conflicts on global demand and tourist confidence, and a further severe drought in Thailand." The Nation 2016-01-04

GDP growth of 2.8% in 2015 will seem like a banner year when 2016 ends.
