what do you bring from Thailand when visiting the West?

Featured Replies

this is a recurring problem I have - I don't know what to bring back from Thailand to the West when traveling, either as a present or as a "good value" purchase.

what do you purchase in Thailand to bring back to your country?

Nam Blah.

I always used to take those big boxes of orchids - you can get at the airport- always went down well.

If its for someone you don't like--any clothing. Should fall apart on them in a matter of days...

The fact I made the effort to fly thousands of miles to visit is sufficient.

Nothing, everything of value is cheaper in the West unless you buy a bunch of wooden penisis or stupid Hill tribe hats

Seriously I used to take the Lobo pastes

okay, I see this is a difficult question !

An empty suitcase.

SangSom.

Have always brought Thai spices, chili sauce, and the same old, same old fridge magnet. :'D

Oh, you mean as souvenirs to give to people? Here in Chiang Mai, there are some incredible small factories making things like Norwegian boots, intended just for customers in Norway; Belgium lace, intended just for customers in Europe and highly distilled rice spirits that are only sold overseas. With the right contacts you can find some exquisite high end-goods made with the Thai attention to detail that aren't sold here in Thailand. This isn't junk that falls apart right away. These items are works of excellent examples of Thai craftsmanship and skill and make wonderful gifts.

You can often find products like these and others at OTOP stores and factory outlets if you don't know the factory owner.

But, I also find I pack a good supply of Thai toiletries with me. The body powders, lotions, deodorants, shampoos, conditioners, toothpaste, etc are really quite good and reasonably priced when compared with similar products in the west. No point in buying that stuff "back home".

Tiger balm for my aunty.

Nothing. I travel with a modest carry on. I sometimes buy a few T-shirts for myself. If anybody else wants stuff from Thailand, they can fork over the travel money and spend 24 hours traveling half way around the world

same sort of tourist crap i bring back here from the UK tongue.png

here is the first post:

At home in England for 3 weeks. Want to make sure I come back with things I can't get in Thailand. Any suggestions?

maybe it's you who needs to go back to school?

Sometimes I lose the will to live on this forum.

Do some members have a vast independent data base- they remember some previous post and then shoot down in flames someone who in all innocence posts something similar.
