Forest encroachment in Nakhon Sri Thammarat widespread

NAKHON SI THAMMARAT, 14 January 2016 (NNT) - The province of Nakhon Si Thammarat has launched a forest reclamation campaign in the Khao Luang Mountain Range.

Nakhon Sri Thammarat Governor Peerasak Hinmuangkao has led a team of soldiers, police officers and journalists to inspect the forest areas, particularly in Prom Khiri and Lansaka districts, after reports of encroachment. The reports said that several areas have been destroyed, suspecting that a large number of people could have been encroaching on public forests for a long period of time. Houses and a small dike were illegally constructed over an area of 100 rai.

The Governor has instructed a group of government officials, which discovered another case of encroachment in Kam Lon subdistrict, to take serious legal action against those responsible.

Khao Luang Mountain Range is a major water source for Nakhon Si Thammarat residents. Those living in Lansaka district could suffer water shortages during summer.

Grandstanding by the Governor. Fortunately it will be difficult to trampled the evidence.

When will this realise that forests are needed not just to make money but for life itself. When will the gov realise that violation of the laws are not to be overlooked or bought out of because the repercussions for allowing it to happen can be drastic for everyone. This encroachment is not just a problem there but in most of Thailand. Yet, the gov waits to do something about it when it is too late and the damage is already done.

What a shocking find! The problem is I bet EVERY park has this much or more encrochment. I passed threw the gates of a N.P. this morning. After passing the gate. I was in a huge palm and rubber plantation? Amazing Thailand!

PM Prayuth really needs to form a government department "The department of Land Enroachment" and let that department investigate everywhere and anywhere. These enroachers will emerge like maggots from a piece of raw meat. Then lock the greedy thieving bastards up and take everything that they have away from them. Allowing no one to scamper off to the nearest temple until the pressure is off !

And did this happen yesterday or years before? At least action IS being taken..

Correct title reads: Forest encroachment in Thailand widespread
