Minister attached to PM's Office gives special lecture on "strengthening national identity"

BANGKOK, 15 January 2016 (NNT) - Minister attached to the Prime Minister's Office M.L. Panadda Diskul gave a special lecture at Thai Cultural Center on "strengthening national identity” during a workshop entitled: "National identity, Thai identity."

He said parents should be a good role model for children and high-ranking officials should be a good example for their subordinates and general people. In addition, he said, teachers should be a good role model for their students and there should be unity among people in the country.

They all know their national identity.

It's called "Tea Money".

So many ' should be's ' in a short report and that's about as far as it will go.

There's nothing wrong of being proud of your country and who you are but it's seen here as the answer to everything and it isn't working.

But, but, but Yingluck.........

They are all crooks and thieves.

The entire government REVOLVES around kick-backs, payoffs, intimidation and bribery.

That's the one thing they all seem to agree on.

Hey hey no reason to limit it only to the government. Judiciary, lawyers, police, amphurs etc etc....its a top down system.

It's upside down no matter which way you look at it.

My daughter was about 4 when she realized the concept of upside down.

Little cutie couldn't quit saying it.

She's only 10 now, but if she was an old grizzled vet of watching Thai politics, and had a brief history lesson, she'd be saying "Upside down, Upside down,Upside down,Upside down..."

Heheee! Personally, I have Thai family members who are teachers. Setting a good example and being a good role model are not within their grasps. Even with their own children they teach that it is OK to lie, OK to cheat, OK to hide the things they do that was bad, and ok to act like pigs so dirty and to be so uncontrollable. So disgusted I am of the things I see they let their kids get away with and the things they say and do that I have banned them from my home and forbidden my kids to ever be in the same room with them or outside with them. These are the role models teaching Thai kids right now. About the only positive thing i can say is that at least the parents look after their kids once they both come from work. This of course is not a good thing because of the way they raise them when they are together but, perhaps better than dumping the kids on their grandparents 24/7.

A prime example is that at the age of 2 they were allowing their kid to run around the house with a butchers knife. I fear to even imagine what kind of role model they are at their respective schools.

Shame on me! I forgot the most crucial part of Thai government duties.

CRACKDOWNS!

They're getting the worlds highest flagpole what else do they need to believe they're number one.

It's never good enough to just 'say'. You also have to 'do'. Otherwise it's meaningless as a role model.

Hehee do not underestimate the importance of teaching kids at school...the V sign !

parents should be a good role model

officials should be a good example

teachers should be a good role model

...doing what exactly? Give us a list, oh mighty attached minister, because I am a good example for something right now, just don't know what.

I wouldn't have thought ''Thainess'' needed strengthening, just the opposite in fact

They're getting the worlds highest flagpole what else do they need to believe they're number one.

Pretty sure I hold that title. Then again you might, but I'd rather not verify the facts.

Police consider prosecuting Koh Tao victim's sister over Thailand criticism

Their national identity could be; a caring, sensitive, compassionate country, if it weren't for utterly stupid, asinine statements like the headline above.

We'd all be awfully grateful if you didn't...

I doubt the 4 million vanquished Southern Malay-Thais will have much enthusiasm in strengthening Thai national identity. Nor for the millions of immigrant workers.

There once was a European nation in the 1940's whose leader emphasized, even glorified the purity of its people's ethnicity. That didn't work out well ultimately for the leader or the nation.

It's funny the Thai Identity he is pushing is Chinese Thai, not native Thais (who are seen as dark skinned slaves that are reincarnated buffaloes).

Thai Rak Thai ..........would be a good slogan for national unity. Oh, No..............wait !

Thai Rak Thai ..........would be a good slogan for national unity. Oh, No..............wait !

and they don't anyway they rak money

Thai Rak Thai ..........would be a good slogan for national unity. Oh, No..............wait !

Well, at the risk of causing "conniptions" amongst some of us, could I suggest that the time of Thai Rak Thai was two of the four occasions in the last twenty years when the Thai people were united in deciding (through the electoral process, as constitutionally mandated and so on....) on who should run the country.

The other two occasions, 2007 (Peoples Power Party) and 2011 (Pheu Thai).

The Minister urging unity on the Thais is part of the faction who were instrumental in overturning the peoples decision in three out of those four occasions.

Unity obviously is a rather flexible concept...

The problem with nationalism is- it always comes in a package together with racism, elitism, exaggerated opinion of ones ethnic background combined it leads to isolation. I guess that is exactly the last thing this country needs.

"...high-ranking officials should be a good example for their subordinates and general people. In addition, he said, teachers should be a good role model for their students..."

That's two that get a failing score.

Thailand needs more national identity like the rest of the world needs to 'discover Thainess' - that is ZERO percent.

Thailand has suffered enough from mindless and unjustified nationalism and this guy is yet another conspirator from the parasite club seeking to control the masses for the benefit of the few. The world is a much better place without people like this.

As to the stupid flagpole, that's primary school stuff and shows how unready Thailand is to join the list of developing nations, nevermind developed ones: eternally third world is all Thailand will ever be until it puts some salt on all these blood-sucking leeches that love the sound of their own announcements.
