NLA assured APPF of Thailand's attempts to solve human trafficking, terror concerns

BANGKOK, 20 January 2015 (NNT) - The National Legislative Assembly has assured participants at the Asia Pacific Parliamentary Forum (APPF) that Thailand is determined to solve various problems of international concerns.

Pol. Gen. Chatchawal Suksomjit has been leading a group of NLA members to attend the 24th APPF gathering in Vancouver, Canada.

The annual international assembly of parliamentarians from Asia and the Pacific has been scheduled during January 16 and 23 to allow participants to discuss various issues to promote cooperation among member countries.

Among the issues planned for this year has been the Meeting of Women Parliamentarians, during which the Thai delegation has shown Thailand’s recognition of the importance of having more members of the parliament who are women and promoting their roles.

The delegates also affirmed Thailand’s attempts to tackle the problems of transnational crimes and human trafficking as well as the country’s aim to promote cooperation among all to fight terrorism.

Kinda hard for us to believe that when the policeman investigating this is seeking asylum in Australia due to threats on his life for implicating high level officials.

"the Thai delegation has shown Thailand’s recognition of the importance of having more members of the parliament who are women and promoting their roles."

Oh Really?

"In 2011, women made up 15% of MPs, 16% of senators, and held only 17% of senior civil service positions..." Workforce is essential in promoting gender inequality, by Napamon Roongwitoo, 3/3/2012.

"UN Assistant Secretary-General John Hendra, deputy executive director for policy and programme at UN body the Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women, said Thailand was in the low bracket internationally, given that women here make up only 14 per cent and 17 per cent of MPs and senators respectively." The Nation 2014-02-14

And the women in the present NLA?

NLA member Mrs. Saowanee said "the quota system, which regulates the number of female representatives in the parliament, should be scrapped so that women can compete with men on equal footing and nepotism can be eliminated." (2015-11-06 )

And the women present in the NCPO? None. It's strictly a Boys Club.

Well to be fair the Thai people did choose a Woman as Prime Minister.

Maybe the "good people" from the (appointed) NLA would like to expound on that to their fellow parliamentarians. ...
