Government to expedite relief measures to help farmers affected by drought

BANGKOK, 20 January 2016 (NNT)-The government is planning to divert water from alternative sources to parched provinces as part of its drought relief measures.

Chief of Armed Forces Development Command General Hassapong Yuwanawattanaha visited Ang Thong province to observe the canal dredging operation in Pho Thong district. A group of soldiers have been dredging Khlong Wat Sai Canal in an attempt to create a water retention area.

The two kilometer canal will be able to prevent flooding and save water for household consumption during the dry season. According to General Hassapong, a road maintenance project and a search for additional sources of water are also expected to be expedited soon in Ang Thong.

Meanwhile, Army Chief General Teerachai Nakwanich stressed during the meeting at the Office of the Secretary General of the National Council for Peace and Order the need to quickly implement relief measures to help farmers. These include finding a market for field crops, dredging more canals, preventing forest fires and haze pollution.

Finding crops that grow in drought areas, means finding new crops to grow and then new markets , Africa would be a good lace to look at for drought affected areas, when i was lucky enough to see farming areas over there

i did see (millet and sorghum )being grown and the crop providing fuel and construction materials, the other crop grain legumes that grow in very low rainfall areas, these type of crops are high in protein and restore the soils by the roots helping restore nitrogen thus helping future crops, stems and stalks from this crop are used as feed lot.

as for the fires in the forrests are we talking of having a volunteer fire fighters who back burn and clear fell?

haze pollution, we all see the amount of diesel soot spewing out of non serviced trucks blocked filters etc that is unburnt diesel, some enviromental type fines should be implemented on these habitual offenders. a little less haze maybe.

Ha,

So what this means is "maybe" they'll bail out the southern rubber producers in some way, shape or form, we all know why, but does anyone honestly think that they have any intention of helping the farmers in the North or North-East? laughable.....
