METV London Uk on Monday - couple questions!

Featured Replies

Hi all, going to apply for a METV in London

I'm 25 and confess to likely being a digital

Nomad around sea for the next few months.

I've spent 3 months in Thailand over 6 months until December 2015 on visa exempts.

My questions in regards to the london UK requirements:

Is £6000 in an online ISA saving account - been there for over a year. Does this count? Can I just print out a copy. What does official stamp of bank mean?

I am self employed in the UK as a sole trader - so not registered to a company as I sub contract to other companies. So how do I give a company registration document?

And when they say your self assessment - this is done online - so just a copy?

The requirements just say a copy of the flight out, I see no mention of needing a return?

Thanks - if ever questioned by an official about reasons for being there what are things to be avoided and things to be said? Saying I am visiting my thai gf?

Ps I'm not trying to exploit thailand - it's just a great place to be while I work on my online stuff. I don't 'work illegally' in the sense of taking money from Thailand and I spend a lot.

Thanks in advance, once I get the thoughts will go to embassy on Monday.

Best that you address your questions to the London Thai Embassy.

I very much doubt anyone here can answer your questions.

Sole traders in the UK are usually registered and pay tax.

If OP sub-contracted to companies in Thailand, he would have a much better story.

Hi WillJohn,

I'll be doing the same soon, my thoughts after talking to others are:

Your ISA account should be fine. To be sure I'm requesting hard copy statements from my own bank (Barclays) as the statements are all online, they said it's fine as it's for a visa application and won't charge me anything for 6 months worth of statements. Takes about 5 working days to arrive once requested.

I'll be taking a copy of my last years accounts and tax return. I'm assuming the company reg document applies to Ltd Companies only.

Others i've spoken to have taken proof of a flight out of Thailand within the first 60 days, even though this isn't mentioned on the embassy website. Most do a return flight booking, but I managed to find direct flights from Phuket to Penang for £50 return, so booked a one way from UK then to Penang.

I'll just say i'm going travelling if asked by officials, because it's the truth. I won't be working at all, but any tips from others on this would be helpful.

Good luck tomorrow, could you report back once you've been please mate?

I was granted METV yesterday at Liverpool consulate. Didn't go to London in the end.

Took 10 minutes and then come back in 20 minutes to collect.

Painless process

I provided:
