Lets hope Thailand has not gone back to the Thaksin days of politics where dozens of Human Rights activists had gone "missing"

Prayut is surely better than that.

The story doing the rounds of the bookseller who fled to Thailand and turned up in mainland China, problem is, the Thais say he had no exit stamp on his passport so how did he leave Thailand?

This is no different, he will turn up back in the mainland.

Thailand is China's lap dog. It is not possible for Chinese agents to go to Thailand, illegally pick up a man, and escort him (against his will) out of Thailand - without Thai officials being complicit. What Thailand allowed is kidnapping and it's illegal in nearly every country. If China asked Thailand to lick its shoes, Thailand would grin and say, "How shiny do you want them licked, oh great money maker?"

The jury is still out on that one but from all collective reports, I'd say guilty as charged.

And what does the Thai government say about all this? Evidently nothing. What would they say if American or European government did the same?

Did what? There is no evidence he was abducted. It's just the last place he was seen.. Who was he seen by?

When one exposes governmental sanctioned inhumane treatment of it's citizens...in today's world...one can expect to disappear...government looses face...person looses his ass...zero tolerance for Human Rights Activists...

Every country in the world has been willing to ignore China's renege on the agreement with the UK on Hong Kong, extra territorial claims, the invasion of Tibet and Taiwan's democratic freedom in exchange for trade with China.

Yes every country has ignored what China has done to HK. It has taken a while but eventually the Red jack boot came down on their neck. The UK knew in time this would happen but sold the people out anyways. They kiss each others you know what for trade. Now China is trying to threaten Taiwan in the same way but the young people there are to smart. Fool me once shame on you fool me twice shame on me. I am amazed that China does not try and go back in time and claim all the lands conquered by Genghis Khan. They have no shame only territorial greed.

Oh please any country claims territory what about russia over crimea?

Of course he was abducted. What else could have reasonably happened? China is forever extending its iron fist to stifle dissent. They sent undercover tough guys over, found the guy, and forcefully took him back to China. In a more civilized country, border guards or other officials would interfere/intervene to protect a person from being kidnapped. In Thailand, it's a mai pen rai because, Buddha forbid, we never ever want to do or say anything which may cause a Chinese official to lose face.

I just read a narrative, true story, about a BBC reporter who was in Beijing, blocks for Tianamen Square, when the shit hit the fan, years ago. She said many trucks filled with Chinese soldiers (trucked in from far away, so they would have no compassion for locals) - the soldiers were standing in rows in the back of the trucks, picking off anybody (locals, kids, students) with their automatic weapons. The politburo are a mean bunch of cold-blooded bastards. They told the soldiers they were going to Beijing to battle insurgents. Even houses and apartments were sprayed with bullets, killing and maiming many ordinary people inside. Within minutes, the hospitals were filled to overflowing. That couldn't have happened in Europe or N.America. China is run by some mean-spirited paranoid old men with freon for blood.

Has any body considered he has got himself disappeared! Maybe a publicity stunt, or he just wants to go into hiding but saying he's been abducted is a great cover story so nobody looks for him. It happens.

You don't find that a little suspicious?

I actually find it more suspicious that an anti communist Chinese agitator would choose to exit Thailand in Laos a communist country with close ties to China!

Why would a person fleeing Chinese goons who was concerned the Thai government might cooperate with China try to leave the country through a laxly run border crossing into a backwards third world country?

I don't know, maybe he thought he was more likely to be picked up if he remained on Thailand or tried to leave using an international airport.

Western countries are accepting millions of asylum seekers, and yet refused this one case. Why?

Seems no poster asked this question except me...

Thailand is the hub for activist disappearance.

Well, to give you some facts, in my time here, I arrived in 2003, 36 local activists have gone missing, of which today only 3 really remain 'missing', because of the other 33, their bodies have been found.

(don't tell your tourist friends!)

Exactly !

With Thailand's record re Chinese activists, and known for it's close ties with China, one must be quite stupid to come here as a Chinese fugitive or activist in the first place!

Probably because as I understand it you have to be in a country to claim political asylum, ergo trying to claim political asylum in the west whilst in Thailand is a no go, short of a western goverment giving him permission to enter and stay at there respective embassy here, which I doubt very much would happen. First off, BBC is reliable. Secondly, I don't know if my proposed scenario is true. But I do know quite a bit about Chinese officials, and how they're hyper-paranoid and have enacted such silent abductions numerous times. Read up on recent abductions in HK of people who were running a book store there. Become aware of what's going on.

Secondly the BBC is not reliable at all never has been it's a goverment of the day mouth piece it can never be neutral as it paid for by the population but mostly via the government. Thirdly I was commenting on the so called troops from another place bit you quoted. I know China will do whatever it takes for her country right or wrong I'm not commenting on that one not my place to do so. I need not become aware as half no three quaters of what you read is from these do Gooders who will write anything to brain wash people into feeling sorry for them or fund them. Yes people go missing in China yes some are abducted and killed but if you don't think that happens in the west you are deluded. China will defend her constitution with all her might only the same as the so called free world

he came to Thailand from India and then was heading closer to China via a communist country with strong ties to China. Your rational makes absolutely no sense! I know you like slagging off Thailand and this government but in this instance there is NO evidence that he went "missing" in Thailand. Actually it's much more likely he was picked up at the Laos border.

I am no expert on fleeing a country without being noticed, are you? Perhaps this missing Chinese rights activist is a novice as well.

From my experience with border crossings the land borders with poor nations tend to be the most laxly operated and the best bet for not being flagged in some computer. If I thought Chinese spooks were after me and the Thai government was assisting them I'd head for a land border, as this man did. I would definitely avoid international airports.

Did you read the full article? It states:

"Li travelled this year to Thailand, a long-time hub for Chinese fugitives trying to make it to the west, where he boarded a train to the north-eastern border to enter Laos. His wife has since been unable to reach him.

“He got on a train from Bangkok to Nong Khai at 8.36pm on 10 January. We had been in touch those days. The next day, around 7.40am, we lost contact,” Shi said.

Li Xin has been missing for 10 days after leaving Thailand for Laos with the hope of returning to Thailand to apply for political asylum, said his wife, Shi Sanmei."

Perhaps he had not learned of recent disappearances of Chinese from Thailand. He is from a country as enthusiastic about censorship as Thailand, after all. It appears he was going to Laos for visa reasons in order to extend his stay in Thailand while attempting to apply for political asylum in the west.

You and a few others seem desperate to find a reason to believe the junta is not assisting China in violations of law and human rights. You're not convincing too many people. This case looks as suspicious as the Hong Kong bookseller who disappeared from Thailand and appeared days later on Chinese television confessing to past crimes. http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/887390-hong-kong-bookseller-who-disappeared-from-thailand-held-in-china/?p=10321914&hl=%2Bchinese+%2Bbook+%2Bmissing

Riiiigggghhhhttt.... He didn't go to Laos for visa purposes in order to give himself more time to build a case for political asylum, he self-disappeared without telling his wife or anyone else. Obviously he did this to....umh, why did he do this?

How about the Hong Kong bookseller, did he also self-disappear? Was he so eager to return to China in order to confess to a crime from years ago he couldn't wait to leave in a conventional manner?
