PM to meet ex- Communists Friday

Ex-Communist insurgents will have a meeting with Prime Minister Surayud Chulanont on Friday to call for the government to pay more attention to what previous governments had been promised when they surrendered their weapons in the 1980s.

Sarit Surit, a leader of the former insurgents in Nan province, said that Surayud will meet his group in northern province of Lampang on Friday.

Sarit, said that he would inform the prime minister that they have not yet received what they had been promised when they gave up their fightings under the 66/23 campaign in 1980.

Then governments promised to give several benefits in exchange including lands and assistance for their children's education, Sarit said, but until now they did not get anything.

Surayud's father, Lt Col Payom Chulanont, was a Communist insurgent, was forced to take refuge with the Communist Party of Thailand following a purge of the armed forces led by military strongman Field Marshal Prapas Charusathien.

Might I suggest that in exchange for meeting the promises of a long gone former government, that they give these reds one free boat ride to one of the last remaining communist bastions of the world DPRK?
