BANGKOK: -- The Fiscal Policy Office has decided to adjust down the economic growth projection for this year to 3.7 percent from 3.8 percent.

Mr Krisada Jinavijarana, director of the office, said that the economy this year was projected to expand 3.7 percent instead of 3.8 percent as earlier projected because the office has to factor into its project the fluctuation of global oil prices and global economic recovery which is expected to be weak.

Growth rate for last year registered at 2.8 percent compared to 0.9 percent a year earlier largely due to increased spending by the government sector from stimulus packages, said Mr Krisada.

As for this year, he predicted that growth rate could increase to 3.7 percent thanks to government’s substantial investments in infrastructure projects, financial injection into Village Fund to support SMEs.

Try 2.5% , that would be more realistic than a prediction..................................coffee1.gif

good to see all is going to plan coffee1.gif

a rather modest adjustment considering the state of the worlds finanz

A scene that will be replayed a dozen or so times this financial year...downward...always downward.

Just last week financial commentators (o/seas) were saying that Thailand growth would be around 2- 2.5% slightly down from last year.

3.7% sounds like a big jump in growth.......thaistylethumbsup.gif

Khun Krisada certainly appears content and at peace with the world.

I think your being a bit optimistic. This could be a real shake out year. Make or break it. After watching parts (all I could stomach) of the GOP debate boy are we in big trouble if one of these jokesters gets the reins of power. They will drive us over a cliff.

Not February yet and they start backing off. Lets see where these brain boxes adjust it to by about June.

Modest adjustments can add up.

In one month a downward adjustment of 0.1%. Do this for every 11 remaining months and you have an ending rate of 2.6% or an average annual rate of 3.1%. Coincidentally, Deputy Prime Minister Somkid Chatusripitak for Economic Affairs predicted this month that the Thai economy will expand by 2.8% - 3% for 2016.
