If entering Thailand on a 60 day single entry tourist visa if I flew out of Thailand after 20 days can I get a re-entry permit to enter 2 weeks later and still be able to use the remaining 40 days on my tourist visa. Or is the re-entry visa only for use with non immigrant visas?

You can get a re-entry permit no problem.

BUT It only protects your existing permission to stay date, you don't "save" the days you're outside the country.

"I don't want to know why you can't. I want to know how you can!"

You would lose the two weeks that you're out of the country. If you re-entered 34 days after your initial 60 day entry you would be granted a 26 day stay.

So my 60 day single entry tourist visa is still valid until the original departure date. Can I on my return extend that original tourist date is it 30 days?... If I got married to a Thai during my 60 day stay could I apply for an extension on my original single entry tourist visa and how long would an extension be

  • Yes, the original 'admitted until' (departure) date.
  • Yes, you can extend the 60 day stay by 30 days, on return, but usually only within the last week or so.
  • Yes, if you get married you can have a 60 day extension of stay to visit your wife (1,900 baht).

If you enter Thailand and get a must-leave-by date of 15 April (as an example) and you get a re-entry permit, you will still get a permission to stay up to 15 April when you return to Thailand. Any single re-entry permit you get would only be valid up to the end of your current permission to stay or until it's been used.

You're only granted one actual extension per tourist visa entry. So you could get the 30 day extension or the 60 day extension, but not one followed by the other.

If you were to apply for a second extension it would be denied and they would give you 7 days to leave. Not technically an extension.
