DPM Wissanu to discuss public referendum plan with related agencies and parties

BANGKOK, 4 February 2016 (NNT) – A deputy prime minister is scheduled to discuss the planned public referendum on the draft charter with the parties and agencies involved.

Deputy Prime Minister Wissanu Krea-ngam said on Wednesday that he will soon meet with representatives from the Election Commission of Thailand, the Bureau of the Budget, the Council of State, the Constitution Drafting Commission, the Ministry of Justice and the National Economic and Social Development Board, to discuss the public referendum on the draft Constitution.

The meeting will also touch on a proposal from the EC concerning possible legal action against those who have been campaigning to reject the draft charter.

Mr. Wissanu said that, since there is no law which forbids any campaign against the draft Constitution, thorough consideration must be given so people may still exercise their right of expression.

Nevertheless, he said that a new law to handle the issue can still be enacted.

Regarding the Cabinet’s suggestions for the CDC, the deputy prime minister said that all related offices have already been ordered to compile the various opinions expressed and present a summary to him.

Mr. Wissanu added that he will suggest the CDC adjust its reform road map to match that of the National Council for Peace and Order, in order to prepare the country for a general election in July 2017.

Hope. Is that "Bob Hope" or "no eff#*g hope"?

"since there is no law which forbids any campaign against the draft Constitution, thorough consideration must be given so people may still exercise their right of expression."

But on the other hand not a problem - "a new law to handle the issue can still be enacted."

Thank you Mr. Wissanu for the clarification. It's a refreshing admission that there is complete collusion between the Prayut government and the so-called Independent Organizations as defined even by the Junta's Interim Charter.
