Easiest/cheapest visa option for Brit to stay 6 weeks in Thailand?

Featured Replies

Hi everyone, I'm British, I have a British passport and I want to stay in Thailand for a 6-week holiday. What's the easiest and cheapest way to do this? Thanks for any replies

Up to 60 days stay with a Single Entry Tourist Visa, £25. From a consulate near you.

You can enter and get 30 visa exempt entry that can be extended for 30 days at an immigration office.

You would though probably need a ticket out of the country within 30 days of arrival to board your flight to here. A one way ticket on a low cost carrier to a nearby country would be accepted.

A single entry tourist visa (SETV) would be the best option as you are staying longer than 30 days.

Thanks for the replies. I'm interested in unbonjoe's suggestion to get an extension at an immigration office. I'm in China and it's inconvenient to go to a Thai consulate. I plan to stay in Samut Prakarn during my vacation and there's an immigration office. Could anyone please explain what an extension is and how to apply for one when you have a 30-day tourist visa? Thanks

It is an extension of the 30 day permit to stay allowed under the visa exemption scheme (it is not a tourist visa).

You need to complete a TM7 application form and attach a 4 X 6 cm photo to it. Have copies of your passport photo page, entry/permit to stay stamp and TM6 departure card. The fee for it is 1900 baht.

Hi, thank you so much for your help and explanation. Sorry to bother you with all these questions but when you fly into Thailand and get the 30-day stamp, is that the 'visa exemption scheme'? It's not a tourist visa? Thanks for the instructions about how to apply, that's very clear.

There are no 30 day tourist visas !

The "30 day stamp" represents a visa exempt entry.

The 30 day stamp you get is a visa exempt entry. A tourist visa can only be obtained at an embassy or consulate.
