Employed to the expiry of my contract, visa extension and wp.

Featured Replies

Good afternoon everyone.

I hope everyone is having a nice weekend. I have a few queries which I would be grateful if anyone could help with.

I have decided to return to my home country (UK) after my contract at work ends which is 30th April. I plan to do a tour of Thailand before flying home. My Visa extension and WP also expire on 30th April. I will be actually present at work until the 29th which is a Friday, but still getting paid and officially employed up to and including the 30th. So, my queries are:

1. As I will be employed right to the very end of my WP, I can't cancel it beforehand, as I will need it to be employed, So I will be running it right down, so to speak. I hear that it is possible to get a 7 day extension, but for this I would need proof of cancellation of WP.. This is not possible as I don't need it to be cancelled. Would a letter from my school confirming my last day of employment be sufficient for immigration to give me the 7 day extension? I also hear that they might want proof that I am leaving the country within 7 days? I'm not too keen on booking a flight for a period of extension that might not be awarded, if that makes sense. Also, can the 7 day extension be awarded in advance? If I went to immigration a week before or something?

2. Secondly, I am not a big fan of relying on admin etc to provide me with what I need i.e a letter from my employer confirming my last day of employment, so this 2nd situation is the most likely and my most favourable. I'm considering working on the friday (29th), then just flying out on the last day of my visa extension (30th). Do you think I will have any problems doing this, with it being the last day of my visa. Because it really could be a situation where no letter from employer can be obtained. I'd like to fly out to maybe malaysia and then re-enter Thailand either with a tourist visa or use the visa exempt option. If it is possible to fly out from the airport with no proof of employment ending date (no letter), would both Suvarniphumi and Don muang be ok to fly out from and does it matter where I am flying to i.e. not my home country)?

Any advice would be fantastic,

Thanks.

1. Normal procedure is to get a termination letter from your employer. You can go to immigration to cancel your extension a few days prior to the termination date and they will post date the cancellation that would give you time to leave the country.

Or you can apply for a 7 day extension, pay 1900 baht and be given 7 days to leave the country. You do not need to show a ticket out to get it.

2. You could fly out out of the country without a problem.

That's great mate.. Thank you very much for your reply.

For option 1, the extension, would I need to take anything to immigration regarding Wp, as this won't be possible.

Cheers

Immigration will only want the termination letter.
