BANGKOK: -- Thailand’s Energy policymakers are planning to provide better access to the state’s solar rooftop program.

The policymakers will allow the private sector access to the program to promote solar power in the kingdom. The program will be liberalized, which will allow for private firms to bid on licenses in the solar industry.

A combined generating capacity of 100 MW will be able to be bid upon by private industries.

Anantaporn Kanjanarat, Energy Minister, announced that the Energy Regulatory Commission will sign a letter of intent by April to free up 100 MW worth of projects that will be able to be bid on by private firms.

I have had solar on my roof for 4 years now and running 3 air cons 2 tv and typical stuff fridge microwave computers, my power bill has been consistent of 40 baht a month every month for those years,

i just hope the competition for 100 mw will lower the price and let more people have access to the saving of money on the purchase price, power price paid per month , and can feel they have played a small part in helping the environment,

Out in the country they could have given so much more 1000 mw would be a starting point and getting serious about utiliszing the amount of sunlight, a small step in the right direction.

Moving in the right direction. I hope the costs continue to get lower as well.

The program will be liberalized, which will allow for private firms to bid on licenses in the solar industry.

Late 2014, the PM chaired the National Energy Policy Committee and approved a new Feed In Tariif Program for Solar Rooftops in Thailand. In 2015

the government initated the Solar Rooftop Program Phase 2 that allowed revival of individual rooftop solar systems. Thai Solar Future and Amorn have been suppliers of solar rooftop systems. See the Electrical Forum for detailed technical discussions on solar economics.

So it would seem the liberalization is merely allowing more licensed installers to enter competition.

Could you briefly outline your installation?

Do the panels produce DC and you have a converter to AC?

What is the total output in Kw since to power 3 Aircons plus TV and all must be a large area of panels. I never thought that was affordable for a domestic consumer.

What about night time? You must have a huge bank of storage batteries constantly charging.

Just took another look at the photograph in the OP and note that the two installers are wearing HiViz jackets and full safety harness. Big thumbs up for Thailand. Who said safety was non-existent?whistling.gif

I hope those 2 Farang in the photograph have got a work permit to be carrying out that installation in Thailand? coffee1.gif
