Drug mule Brit arrested for trafficking meth from Thailand to Australia

PERTH: -- A 45-year old British man has been arrested in Perth after he was found to have smuggled half a kilo of Methamphetamine to Australia from Thailand on a flight last Saturday.

The man was allegedly carrying the drug inside his body, in 106 separate pellets.

During a baggage examination at Perth airport, border force officials pulled the man aside after suspecting that he may have concealed drugs somewhere about his person.

A subsequent medical examination saw him eliminate 106 pellets, which had each been stamped pink, weighing around 500 grams in total. Although the pellets are currently undergoing rigorous testing to determine their purity levels, it’s believed at this stage that they contain Methamphetamine. As such, the man was charged with the importation of a ‘marketable quantity’ of a drug and will face trial at Perth Magistrates Court.

The mule should be relieved that his alleged transgressions were caught in Australia, rather than Thailand.

nothing against drugs or drug dealers but... why carry the stuff when you can mail it?

Are you serious.....?

yeah, also those mules are usually not drug addicts or dealers but naive desperadoes, I met a guy doing it from Pattaya, been on the streets for a few years after his wife left and suddenly he had money, but got caught the next trip. but the guys that operate these things will just find another and nothings changed but a homeless guy is now in a Maltese prison

Yer right - mail it rolleyes.gif

Australian Border security and postal customs will catch that this right away with the CBR scanning run on 100% of all incoming parcels.

To summarise, the 'chump' is caught whatever method he chooses - in this instance he is very lucky to be caught in OZ - if he was caught in Thailand it would be a different story.

Eligibile for home transfer after 1/3rd of his sentence I believe.

Dont send him to a UK prison he will think he is in a holiday camp. Send him to a Thai jail

Why do you assume that he need rehab after 10 years in an Australian jail?

Lucky for him. If we was caught in Thailand it is going to be another story

If he had been caught in Thailand, the usual TV suspects would be criticizing the Thais for going after the mule and not the "real drug dealers" higher up the food chain.

Exactly why he should not be sentenced to long time... make him work and pay fines and go to counseling and do community service... FAR FAR cheaper than incarceration and with benefits.

Change the thinking.

and here at time-stamp 16:08 -21:42 is why trying to send drugs by post to Australia is such a bad idea.

Getting arrested for something in countries with less severe penalties has always been a reason to party for most people.

And in the process make it much less risky to carry drugs across boarders,,, change your thinking.

Yet another idiot prepared to risk his life and freedom for the sake of some money carrying drugs inside his person. There seem to be so many of these people getting caught, makes you wonder how many actually get through, it must be a huge amount or this method of transporting drugs would not be used anymore.

The only way this is ever going to end is when people just stop using the stuff. Whilst there is demand it will be met, however they can meet it. Education and a change of thinking is needed and all of the "pro drug" people out there should just shut up and let society ridicule and persecute those who are stupid enough to try it.

When it becomes "untrendy" (for want of a better word) then it will eventually fade away into a much smaller demand. About 25 to 30 years ago nearly 40% of the world were smokers, now it has fallen to below 25%. I know it is still 25% but it is much more difficult to smoke with bans in public places and designated smoking areas, over time this will reduce further i am sure and the stigma associated with smoking is one of intolerance and disgust (I think it is fair to say that)

I hope that this kind of thing happens with drug use, and I mean all drug use.
