BANGKOK: -- The Anti-Money Laundering Office (AMLO) was today (Friday) asked by a anti-graft advocacy group to investigate the money trail of former Channel 3’s news anchor Sorayuth Suthasnajinda and his Rai Som company dating back to the year 2003.

Ms Paka-on Chanthornkana, managing director of Chivanan Group and a member of the Anti-Corruption Foundation, said the foundation had received several requests from media professionals and academics and entertainers to investigate the money trail of Sorayuth and Rai Som company in order to set a precedent of ethical conduct for members of the media.

Since the probe will complement the government’s anti-corruption policy, she said that the foundation, on behalf of civil society, decided to take the case to AMLO.

Besides the money trail, she said the foundation would like AMLO to investigate the contract between Rai Som and MCOT whether it was legal and in conformity with the Prime Minister’s Office regulations.

The foundation’s secretary-general, Mr Mongkolkitti Suksintharanont, suggested AMLO to investigate other TV programmes whether they were legal or not.

AMLO secretary-general Sihanart Prayoonrat said that the investigation would take time because there is a huge load of evidences to look into, especially the court’s verdict.

He pointed out that Rai Som company’s assets are a totally different matter and AMLO can look into the assets only when it was suspected that they were illegally acquired.
