Missing Luggage At The New Airport

A colleague of mine lost her luggage at the airport. In her that luggage, it was filled with gifts and souvenour she bought from BKK. After a few investigations, it was confirmed that the luggage was never board on the flight even. She suspected that the luggage was stolen.

How frequent is this? I always told that people here are generally honest.... I wouldn't think anybody would steal passager's luggage... bad karma :o

First you complain the luggage was lost at the airport. Then, you say it was never boarded on the flight. :D So, does it means that the baggage was lost before checking in or after? If it was after, she surely would have a baggage tag stuck on to her ticket. Which airlines and to where was the flight destined?

Not sure just how prevalent it is now but a few years back pilfering of luggage was very common in Thailand, around five years ago a relative had stuff removed from her bags on a BKK - Phuket flight. Never seen again.

(it is also very prevalent in other countries as well i.e. in Sydney the baggage handlers would steal some of your stuff and be wearing it before your flight took off)

Heathrow had such repudation. I remember once my luggage looked like really searched albeit nothing missing. May be I am too poor.

Some time later read the news that a whole gang of luggage handlers was arrested for pilfering.

Yes, she checked in all her 2 luggages. But only one arrived and the other one missing. The missing one is a new luggage bag. She was told by the airport in charge that, that her luggage was never being board on the airplane. Meaning it gone missing between: after checkin and before the flight took off.... :o

The bag could also have taken off to a different destination, not uncommon at all. If the bag was properly labeled, both outside and inside, it may still be returned.

If things disappear from the luggage, which is in a high security area, there are obviously big security problems. If things can easily be brought out of this area they can probably also be brought in and be planted on the planes, better security is needed.

Back in the old days when I worked I traveled a lot. One very important thing I learned was to always check my luggage tag before the luggage went down the conveyor belt. More than once I found the tag to be wrong. One classic I remember was when I traveling from the USA to Bangkok via Japan my bags wereonly check to Narita. When I questioned the check in lady she informed me that I was overnighting in Japan. She showed me that my ticket confirmed that I was going to Bangkok on the following day. I ask if she had ever heard of the international date line.

That is a classic...made me laugh. Wonder how many other people's bags she ended up causing to get delayed or go missing before you informed her of the international date line.
