DOEB: Boat explosion possibly caused by faulty LNG installation

BANGKOK, 7 March 2016, (NNT) - The Department of Energy Business (DOEB) has theorized that the boat explosion in San Saab Canal was caused by the faulty installation of its gas fuel system.

DOEB Director-General Witoon Kulcharoenwirat explained that once Liquidfied Natural Gas (LNG) is processed into Natural Gas for Vehicle (NGV), it can be used like other fuels. He speculated that the incident was caused by the combination of a gas leak and an electric spark.

Mr. Witoon said that normally, the installation of the gas system is designed to avoid these two events by putting in place systems to properly vent excess gas and prevent electric sparks.

The DOEB chief admitted that the department is not taking part in the investigation and is merely responsible for the safety of LNG stations. The Marine Department is responsible for conducting annual safety inspections of natural gas vessels.

Road,Rail,Air,on Water, and crossing the street, you take your life in your

hands here, wonder no one smelt the leaking gas,or you can imagine,

they knew,in typical Thai thinking,it will be OK, fix it tomorrow.maybe.

regards worgeordie P.s. Vent excess gas !!!!, there should not be any excess gas.

Why bother printing this rubbish? It may have been faulty gas lines or maybe it was someone smoking back there, or maybe the tanks were uncared and exploded, or maybe there was no maintenance. It could have happened for a 100 reasons. Someone at the Dept. of Energy just wanted to get his name in the paper commenting about this without any information or facts at all. Might as well speculated that a worker was near the engine screwing his geek and his untimely orgasm triggered the explosion

There are very strict rules how to install gasinstallations in vehicles, in the West that is.

I wonder if the installer had any certifications to this kind of work.

It's the same at my local Honda-dealer, they just do something or let the youngest kid work on my motobike. For service they only change oil and are too lazy to follow the manual which is written by Honda.

Thailand better hires foreign inspectors for safetyinspections. There was a Japanese heavy wounded by this explosion so it will be all in the Japanese newspapers now. Japanese have a very good eye for safety, the Thai not at all.
