Police to expand crackdown of influential people to notorious places across the country

BANGKOK: -- The Royal Thai Police is prepared to expand the crackdown on influential people in other notorious areas across the country following successful raids in Nakhon Pathom.

This was revealed by the police commissioner Pol Gen Chakthip Chaijinda today.

He made clear that the campaign did not mean to focus merely on politicians but all those whom are classified as influential.

They are those whose crimes involved drug trafficking and arms smuggling he said.

It will all depend on the active investigation underway and what intelligence can be generated, he said and added that it will also include taking action on police officers who are suspected of involvement.

Yesterday the Interior Ministry received a list of influential people. Most are local administration officials.

Royal Thai Army commander-in chief Gen Thirachai Narkwanich yesterday stated adamantly that he would take immediate severe action on any Army personnel either setting themselves up as mafia bosses or getting involved in criminal syndicates.

He however denied rumors that several official documents implicated a number of former high ranking politicians and senior ranking officers for involvement with crime organizations.

He elaborated on the government’s policy to clamp-down on influential criminal figures or mafia bosses, stating that the action was a joint effort combining the inputs of the police, Army and civilian officials.

They have been tasked with cracking down on all forms of criminal syndicates in the entire country.

There was no timeline in the campaign but the effort should produce concrete results within a 6 month period, he said.

He also stressed that no differentiation will be given to whatever factions these individuals were connected to and anyone found complicit with these activities will be brought to justice irrespectively.

He also confirmed that the effort was not politically driven and denied rumors of the existence of a number of secret official documents pointing to involvement of former politicians and their colleagues as well as a number of Army generals with these crime syndicates.

“Anyone involved irrespective of rank or standing will be brought to justice,” he said.

He said if crimes committed by these influential people are connected to politicians, “I consider them criminals and will be treated as such. We want to ensure that innocent civilians and decent people can live and work normally without having to endure interference from these bad people.”

Is the Police Commissioner an influential figure?

Why I bother to comment, we know how this works.

Influential figures can now have competing influential figures nullified.

Bingo. It's just another purge.

Please tell us how one becomes classified as influential? Who decides such a person is influential and this against the public interest? Just enforce the laws equally among all citizens and no need to witch hunt!

Same old same old. Lot of talk show then nothing.

Here is a tip. Check all bank accounts, and index that

list against current politicians... A treasure trove awaits

of people with endless millions of baht in bank accounts,

from their puny government salary...cheesy.gif

BS. I'll believe it when I see law enforcement without regard to connections and social status, and when rich, high ranking people are arrested, convicted, and serving long prison sentences.

Its a crackdown on the Reds. The government has a long list of the Red sympathizers, so now the hunt is on. Wipe out the influential Reds and other dark anti government influences and the government will rule unopposed for as long as they want.

Who decides, the new secret police decide.

Yesterday the police said they are cracking down on influential people and ,mafia. Today the army say the same? What crack down on each other?

Erm, please, don't forget to put Chonbury, Phuket, Samui, Pha Ngan, ...Tao, on your list...

You don't say!? Would there then be so many influential red sympathizers involved in criminal activities? Can't be, is it? All honest and peacefull citizens, never did anything wrong, isn't? So there should be a large 'majority' of non-reds among the ones listed, or did I get it wrong?

Also, your: 'other dark anti government influences' makes me fear the worst, it can't be that Thaksin would make use of any such together with his influential reds, just to make his megalomaniac strategies succeed, is it?

This is only your personal complot theory, isn't it, I hope?

Aah, were is the blessed era of 'the King's Marshalls' of yore...! Instant Justice where Justice had been shown(!) to fail...

What an exciting headline! Me thinks something lost in translation?

once i got 20 likes...

am i influential?

yes i am!!!!!!!!!!!!!
