Embassy in Thailand denies graft allegations

BANGKOK: -- The Cambodian Embassy in Thailand has denied that officials request bribes from Cambodian migrant workers trying to apply for a passport.

In a statement on Friday, the embassy said that recently citizens had accused officials of asking Cambodian workers to pay between 3,000 and 6,000 baht (about $85 to $171) before helping them to apply for and obtain a passport. The allegations had circulated on social media for several weeks.

Why is this believable. They charge inflated rates for a visa at the Chong Chom/O'Smach crossing.

they don't request bribes they simply don't provide the passports if no tea money is being offered. semantics

back in my africa days it was common business that border officers didn't let u in (stamp u in) unless u gave them a pack of sigarettes. they never openly "asked", they simply didn't "have time" to stamp you while poking their noses and scratching their balls....
