BANGKOK: -- Tollway fees for two motorways will be exempted for nine days during the upcoming Songkran festival, beginning April 9-17.

The exemption was agreed at the Cabinet meeting yesterday.

It agreed that tollway fees will be exempted to facilitate people returning to their hometowns for family union during the Songkran period, or Thailand’s New Year festival, next month.

Government spokesman Major-General Sansern Kaewkamnerd said the tollway exemption will begin on April 9 and last until the midnight of April 17.

It will cover motorways No 7 and No 9, he said.

Motorway No 7 is the route to the east from Bangkok to Chon Buri and Pattaya, and motorway No 9 is the outer ring road linking Bang Pa In – Bang Phli.

The spokesperson said the cabinet’s decision aims to help reduce travel time and cost for people who return to their hometown during the New Year festival.

Well good on cabinet,

I hope some thoughtful bosses can let some of their workers take advantage, and

leave early or earlier to help with the congestion.

Drive safe,

Why does a public holiday mean a toll holiday? Hard to figure that one!

Let the days of carnage begin. :-(

To move traffic. On Sunday afternoon there was a 3km, 40 minutes lineup at the motorway 9 north end, southbound tolls.

so, does that mean you can ride a motorcycle on the highway's????

And this is news ?...they do this every year for varying lengths of time and even periods over the other new year (1st Jan )

so, does that mean you can ride a motorcycle on the highway's????

How would you get to no tolls being charged to being allowed to ride a motocy on the motorway ?
